The hard right think they have the writ to shout it down now that der Trumpmeister is in.

I've never seen a complaint about "PC" that didn't indicate the speaker wasn't happy about not being able to insult anyone he chose.

Like star treks eugenics wars...the commiepocalypse never materialized.  Still lives on as a crank conspiracy theory of PC, decades later...though. It jumped the ideological divide in the intervening years. Somewhat...anyway.

Or being publicly shamed with a strong likelihood of losing your job, and, even if you do find another one, having a reputation that will attach you to that crass joke, even if the person really does change their ways, because to a lot of people, you’re only as good as the worst thing you’ve been Publicly accused of, and many of us are very Chuck McGill like that.

If common courtesy was really that easy for a lot of people, this wouldn’t be as big a debate as it is, would it?

Heaven forfend that the things we say might have consequences.  Unheard of...even if the things we say do have consequences for those we say them about.  Double plus ungood!  Wink

IDK about you...but I've said some pretty live shit in my life (and done worse)..I'm doin aight, I've yet to be gulaged. I'm doing much better than the worst thing I've ever been publicly accused of would allow.....but...pc is about what -you- say, not what you're accused of, so...?

If anxiety were a fuel source we'd have a green economy by now.

If they have consequences, they should be proportionate to the actual crime.

I can guarantee that, if I can find exactly what those “pretty live” things are, show them to someone with a huge twitter following, you could easily be one of the next articles on the “Online Shaming” article on Wikipedia. I won’t do that, though, because I actually like you and don’t think making you an object lesson in the dangers of disproportionate retribution is a very good thing.

What about the people who are relentlessly bullied for simple misunderstandings and harmless jokes?

I’m not saying it’s a massive problem but I thought I’d change things up for you so you could say you’ve at least seen one complaint that isn’t about not being able to insult someone. *finger guns*

My perspective comes from the Y-donor hosting a Klavern at our house once a year, on rotation. He told me I'd be joining the Klan when I graduated from high school, or he'd bury me in the woods. The night I graduated I got a ride from a friend and slept  in the Greyhound station in Indianapolis waiting for the induction center to open so I could got to Boot Camp.

Interestingly..isn't that the driving factor behind pc? The things pc aligns itself against do more than inconvenience an asshole........but assholes seem fixated on being called assholes...for whatever reason. That's the real crime, according to assholes who can't handle being called assholes.

Bring on the shame squad. I'm not so fragile, lol. I've been accused of rape. I've thrown a molotov into a black mans boat for fishing while black..as a child. Guess what....I shouldn't have gotten myself into either situation. I said endless stupid racist shit in my early twenties. All could have been avoided by just shutting my mouth.

Real fuckin simple.
