Most of the EE guys and gals I worked with were Asian. Those people wouldn't know how to take the cap off a bottle of liquor. That's not to say there weren't a few party animals, but most were pretty tucked in at the corners.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

Mine is a Carolina girl twang. As soon as people hear the grits flying, in their minds my IQ drops several dozen points. I was born in South Carolina, raised in North Carolina, have a B.A. from a respected (and expensive) private college and have a respectable IQ. Graduated cum laude and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Kappa Nu Sigma, Psi Chi and Delta Psi Omega. I was the department's official tutor for one of the two most difficult psychology courses. But the accent is never going away, so I suspect I will always be viewed as "less than."
Of course all that pales by comparison to how much my value as a human being (in the bible-belt) dropped in the minds of the people in Tinytown upon revealing my atheism.
Where are we going and why am I in this hand basket?

My second time there. I love visiting that place. Disclaimer: I am only responsible for what I say, not what you choose to understand.

I have family in both areas. There's a wide range of NC accents.
Yeah, even I can hardly understand our mountain people...

Not the type from Kath and Kim (which you probably dudn't get in the 'States). Mine's more of the Aussie stereotype. It gets noticed and commented on by the Kiwis around me... ...until the learn what's good for them. Playing Cluedo with my mum while I was at Uni: "You did WHAT? With WHO? WHERE???" |
