Given only those two choices, instead of active duty soldiers, we should have sent bureaucrats to process their asylum claims, doctors to tend to their health issues, and staff to provide for their food and housing. And it would have cost a lot less than positioning 5,000 active duty troops on the border.

What you' re all overlooking -- these folks are willing to force their way across the border. What is their motivation???? Right now - they put themselves AND their kids at greater risk by trying to force their way across the border than simply staying in Mexico....

But noooooooo.... They gotta come here...
