Elvis wasn't exactly the Woodstock type.
In music style they were not . But in youth appeal they were in competition . Which was the concern of a very spooked and paraniod united states who had just gone through the civil rights movement of the 60s .

Both were just a little ahead of my time but from what I could see...there was no competition. There were too different to be in competition.
Apples and oranges.
Elvis was more the rage of my mom's generation.
I was 13 when Woodstock happened so I was just a couple years behind the Jimi thing but quickly caught up.
Their audiences were different because they were so different.
Once again youth appeal

Which is irrelevant as Elvis had young fans at that point so did Hendrix which was the concern .

Elvis was playing to my mom and dad's generation.
Jimi was not...he was playing to mine.
Elvis still had young fans which was what the push was trying to accomplish because of the concern over Hendrix's

It's a different machine. Elvis and all the other guys like him from the 60s were literally designed to appeal to young people, girls especially. They would even crank out the same tunes and hope this or that one would chart. Jimi Hendrix was not formed by the record business. He was counterculture rock 'n roll, which appealed to a mindset more than an age demographic.

What push? He was trying to keep the fans? I don't get what you're trying to say. Elvis was definitely losing popularity when psychedelic rock hit the scene, but I'm really not sure Jimi was considered the competition.
