This is not your ordinary Arnold Palmer Ice T.

RE: This is not your ordinary Arnold Palmer Ice T.
Well, everyone does know that Brian has foot in mouth disease, a sort of Internet Tourette's.
It wasn't just timing though, Brian, you said the wrong thing and you said it to the wrong person, as in, someone who grew up around bombings, IRA and all that.
No one thinks you're violent for one second, but statements like that are at the very least, disappointing.

Ok so at worst I have "foot and mouth disease". But I most certainly have every right to object to being accused of wanting violence, as you said.

But lets forget that I just passed this thread by m Pakistani friend just now, and he agreed with me.

I wouldn't make a great South Park or Family Guy writer.

Boru

I am not going to apologize for anything beyond my timing.

Boru, you piss me off, I piss you off, but NEVER imply EVER that I want any real physical harm to you. AS I SAID BEFORE AND WILL ALWAYS SAY, I HATE VIOLENCE.

The fact you didn't get my humor is your problem, not mine.

The ONLY argument you have in this is timing.

FYI, just so you know, right after this, I called my Pakistani friend up and told him about you not getting my joke. Wanna guess whose side he took?

Holy fucking shit, dude! How many beer bottles are currently rolling around on your AC intake vents tonight? This reminds me of the unholy shit you unleashed on former member KUSA when he admitted to being depressed ON ANOTHER WEBSITE, and you scoured him into the ground HERE?  Huh You need to get clean of alcohol. Seriously.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't that the era, or stemmed from the era where congress dragged Twisted Sister into congress?

I do remember the blow up over the song "Cop Killer."

I guess it is ok for whites to sing about tits and ass like Cherry Pie, or killing law enforcement like Eric Clapton with " I shot the Sheriff". Or committing crimes like the Steve Miller Band, "Take The Money And Run".

Just to be clear, I am agreeing with your post.

That song was in response to PMRC and Tipper Gore's crusade to protect young suburban kids from sex and violence in music and Ice T's trouble with a show in Georgia in 1988.  It was not okay for white guys like W.A.S.P., AC/DC, Judas Priest or pop metal bands to sing about sex and violence.  It equally wrong for trashy '80s girls like Madonna, Sheena Easton, or Cyndi Lauper.  It was easier for a 60's guy like Clapton to cover Bob Marley or J J Cale (Cocaine) because by the 70's, kids didn't take him seriously, and it was still the 70's.

Johnny Cash performed Cocaine Blues at Folsum Prison in 1968.  "Early one mornin' while makin' the rounds, I took a shot of cocaine and shot my woman down."   And that was fine.  So yes, the mid '80s backlash was in step with the father knows best presidency and hint of McCarthyism we experienced with Reagan.  Ice T and rap in general thrived in response.

Yea, but there is still to this day, a deep hypocrisy between when white artists sing about sex and violence, and when black artists sing about the same topics.

FYI, my best friend John, is a huge country fan, pretty sure he is going to be 100% aware of the Johnny Cash song you mentioned. I'll pass it by him tomorrow.

This is the video my best friend John pointed out to me when I told him about this thread.

Banjo touches everything, was his point.
