Engineering Puzzle

Engineering Puzzle
I  builT a small riding flail mower - that uses a horizontal shaft with steel cables with seizings welded on the ends of the cable to prevent the cable from unraveling.

Initial testing showed it worked excellent - with one problem -- shit flew EVERYWHERE - and even with long sleeves, face shield and goggles I ended up getting a pretty bad case of poison ivy.....

So - an enclosed cab was in order. I made my way to my local steel supplier and bought a couple hundred dollars worth of 3/4 inch light steel square tubing and some 20 gauge sheet metal - and some 1/8th inch lexan. Break out the MIG welder.

I got the cabin done today - and have a 12v squirrel cage blower installed - intaking through a 20 inch x 20 inch furnace filter mounted on the back.

The idea - is to pressurize the cabin slightly - so the outflow of air will keep the poison oak, ivy and sumac dust outside - and me nice and clean on the inside.

The challenge -- is to figure out what the pressure inside the cabin is - with the fan running. (Determining positive pressure means I found and sealed all air leaks)

How would you get an accurate reading?

And do it under 2 dollars.

...

(there is a way)

Manometer tube with water in it. Doesn't include the purchase of the Sharpie marker, though.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

Where's my Nobull prize? I guess you won't need a Sharpie marker if you tape a ruler to it. Do the oleo-whatevers go through the filter(s) with the dust? I know that burning poison oak and ivy give off some deadly-ass smoke.

0.0 inches, or else you are measuring it wrong.

If you think you can get easily measurable pressure difference without hermetic gaskets on every seam and joint you’ve never tried anything similar.   Also, you don’t need easily measurable amount of positive pressure to accomplish what you are trying to do.

The filter should provide adequate protection.. Remember - this is shreding dust - much more coarse than smoke aerosol. I wouldn't trust it for smoke....
I wore a cloth mask on my face under the face sheild in testing - and did not get any reaction on my face...

My arms and legs were covered witb thinner material and was more directly exposed - and had a fair amount of plant matter on them - and that is where I caught the worst of it.

Nothing smoke tested....

It was corrosion on a spade terminal on the starter solenoid..... It took a while to find...
