Like religion - such organizations are chock full of people looking to make themselves rich at the expense of others....

IRS needs to review and possibly yank thier tax-exempt status. I say this as a former life member. They've been corrupt for decades.
What sort of checks and balances could be instituted in the NRA to prevent future corruption?

I m not surprised. Been hearing for years (from news sources) that some NRA members have been feeling distanced from the organization's leadership.
