The bullshit claim of "supply and demand" does not take into account that the CEOs market, and tell you what you want, even if that product is not practical or healthy.
Big oil for over a century, even when in the early 1900s were on the edge of solar/battery technology, the Oil CEOs constantly fought and squashed any attempt to compete with them. Tobacco did the same.
Even today, unlike some of our allies, America sells hard spirits on TV, and back when I was a kid, they did not. If big tobacco could get back on TV they would.
It ultimately amounts in all cases about human greed, not practicality, not safety, but MONEY.
And bullshit. While the little guy can collectively be the "David" vs "Goliath" the easier path is for those in power to stop being dicks.
You make my point for me. Thank you.

Boru, seriously,
I could say that Evolution is fact and just because I stated that fact, you'd find some excuse to disagree.
The bottom up fight can and does work, but the easier path is when those in power accept their responsibility. As a small guy, I am not a CEO, as a small guy, I am not Jeff Bezos.
I am right now doing my part by pointing that out. No, it isn't much, but even that collectively does help.

They only thing that is going to change corporate behaviour is money. As long as people keep buying harmful products at the same or increasing rates, corporations will continue to aggressively market and sell those products. The fact that you and billions like you are doing fuckall to reduce your use of these products IS the problem.
Corporations are responsible to their shareholders, they are not (and were never meant to be) responsible stewards of the environment.

Across the board I'm spending about 8% more than usual at the market. Not surprised, saw it coming.
Does anyone know where I can find generic lite beer for the wife?

Stop making this an "either or" proposition.
Big business do respond to the market. They would not market the way they do if they didn't find it profitable. But at the same time, they ALSO manipulate, and pander to superficial appeal to emotion, in vanity and fear, and narcissism, and they know better, but don't care.
Corporations are as fucked as everyone else, shareholders are as fucked as everyone else, if all they give a fuck about are profits. So when you say corporations are responsible to their shareholders, NO SHIT. But that does not make them responsible to humanity long term.
One of the biggest scams in corporate America are class pricing on commercial passenger jets. Mind you, I have no problem with some price differences between first class, or isle or window seats. But when some jaded fuck is paying 30 grand for a 12 hour flight when the person in the back of coach, at the back of the plane next to the bathrooms in the back, is only paying 2k, who the fuck is the sucker? And how would it make a lick of difference if the moron in first class is on a plane that suffers catastrophic damage at 40 thousand feet to the point everyone dies?
I find that price difference fucking bullshit. If that jet is under distress, and all lives depend on the training of the pilots and the mechanical integrity of the plane, how does that bullshit gap between first class and sitting at the back of the plane benefit humanity?

I don't like beer but even I think generic lite beer sounds positively gruesome.

Whomever came up with Pabst Blue Ribbon and Milwaukee's Best, should be tried at Nuremburg.

I'm not. I said that if you expect corporate behaviour to change, the best way to do that is for consumer behaviour to change. It's not either/or, it's both.
Quote:Big business do respond to the market.
I just said that, both in this post and in an earlier one.
Quote:They would not market the way they do if they didn't find it profitable.
I said that, as well. If you're going to argue with me, it might be in your best interests to take up a position contrary to mine.

This is called 'advertising'. It's what works, and no - they DON'T know any better.
Quote:Corporations are as fucked as everyone else, shareholders are as fucked as everyone else, if all they give a fuck about are profits.
Probably, which is why the sensible course is to give them a reason to give a fuck about something in addition to profits.
Quote:So when you say corporations are responsible to their shareholders, NO SHIT. But that does not make them responsible to humanity long term.
Another thing I already said. I'm flattered that you think highly enough of me to quote me to myself, but that really doesn't move the thread along.

I think the part you snipped was letting us know how much his ticket to Australia cost. Of course then there's the ticket he bought for his best friend in Oklahoma, John, or as we know him HillbillyAtheist.
Not sure how he knows someone up front paid 30K...but whatever.
It's important to get certain information out even if you have to camouflage it a bit.
