Let's see what, if any, steady state plays out. In my 54 years of witnessing interventions and conflict, the only conclusion I can come to, considering modern weapons and technology are that humans regardless are tribal. The mantra sold by both political parties in America has been "endless wars" and "global stability". It cannot be a choice between "world police" or "isolationism". Humans don't work like that, regardless of party, friend or foe. The ultimate doomsday is still global, in that both east and west, friend and foe, open state vs closed state, everyone has nukes. At what point do humans realize if our species is to survive, it cannot be an "us vs them" mentality? Just for shits and giggles, have you ever considered tailoring your response to what the person you quoted just said? Boru

Ok, I wasn't, but aren't you glad you don't have the nuclear codes? ABBA seriously gets a bad rep outside of the fans. But if we are going to talk about music lets equate that to food tastes too. If you are going to ask me if I want caviar, or offer me grilled cheese sandwich, I will take the grilled cheese sandwich every day of the week and a billion times on Sunday. ABBA never claimed to be deep, although a few of their songs were. All they wanted to do was be fun, and from a fan's perspective they did just that. I hate the fight between popular music and underground or "deep" music. In all seriousness, no matter what music one may be into, the famous artists you like, are most likely to have a wide range of word wide music influences. ABBA simply focused on pop. But in reality, in training, and in voice, they had their eye on the world. And as far as Agnetha and Anni, Back in the late 70s, ABBA put out a "BEST OF" Album called "The Magic Of ABBA". It was advertised on TV. I bought it. And not just for the music, that album inside photo and back cover was to me, well, basically hoping my mom wouldn't knock on my bedroom door and interrupt me. TMI? You just said that Agnetha had a great ass. Funny, but Anni, between the two was my favorite. Bjorn and Bennie wrote lyrically challenged but well orchestrated pop diddies, highly derivative with the occasional classical interlude. Agnetha had a fantastic voice and matching ass. I wish she could have worked with American writers and producers. The German version of Ring Ring sounds more natural, which makes me wish they released more songs in German. I'm not particularly fond of grilled cheese, but I would patronize this business, just because of their approach to marketing: Boru

Trade Agnetha for Olivia Newton John, and "Let Me Be There" sells just as well. Remove Agnetha from ABBA, and BBA goes nowhere.
Telling the world the women of Afghanistan will have full rights under islamic law is like telling me I can have any goddamn samwich I want as long as it's plain grilled cheese. You can keep that Kraft singles shit. RE: Should I stay or should I go? POLITICAL op/ed

Staying 20 years has more than likely made the backlash that much worse. Friend or foe, unfortunately the truth is that both are always going to try to move to what either think are advantages. Russia tried to tackle Afghanistan too, and even today China is looking at our exit as an opportunity. I said earlier that America seems far too much stuck on it's WW2 high win, but since, has made quagmires out of North Korea, Viet Nam, Iran and Afghanistan. I think "stay out of it" is a very over simplification in all cases. Power vacuums are always going to have competing factions that attempt to fill those voids, BOTH FRIEND AND FOE. So I think it is wrong to over simplify solutions with "us vs them". If you want to argue we never should have invaded Afghanistan in the first place. I am 100% with you. But we still could have killed Bin Laden with a drone without spending 20 years on the ground.
