The Sects of Atheism
RE: The Sects of Atheism
I don't believe in any gods, not allah, zeus, yahweh, thor, odin or neptune for the same reason I don't believe in goblins, pixies or the tooth fairy, NO EVIDENCE!

So, present your premises and your conclusion. I mean, that was your stated goal, lol. Are you going to follow through with it or…?

Yes I’m going to pick on you guys on what I think are obvious things which some of you deny but as far as schooling …. I’m not that presumptuous despite being on a horse. Smile

Or, in other words, “no.”

So…you came here to give us a lesson in logic and you can’t even present a logical argument for your stated position? The reason you made this thread?

How embarrassing. 😬

Contrary to what Gary seems to think, it’s perfectly plausible to be certain of a position (in effect, to ‘know’ it) without evidence - you can be certain, but still be wrong.

So you’re saying you don’t like that description to your question in English? Should I try in Italian? Greek? 😄

Because, even if someone were able to demonstrate that a god does exist, I would no longer be an atheist, but that does not mean I will worship said god.

I put gods into the category of unsupported supernatural claims, not in the category of things that are worshipped.

Look this is very simple. If you claim to be an atheist, stay true to the definition of the word Not your reasons.

I disbelieve that gods exist. I think this would define me as an atheist.

I don't claim to know, with absolute certainty, that gods do not exist. I think this would define me as agnostic.

I am open to being convinced that gods exist. All it would require is: demonstrable and falsifiable evidence, and valid and sound logic to support the claim. So far, in my life up til now, I have not been presented with such, so my disbelief in gods remains.

It is not for lack of a sincere search on my part. I have read the Bible, the Koran, the Bhagavad Gita.

I have read at least 10 books written by Christian apologists, such as: William Craig, Wallace, Norman Geisler, Strobel, Plantinga, etc).

I have personally studied all the so called philosophical arguments for the existence of god, such as: Kalam Cosmological argument, the teleological arguments, the ontological arguments, presuppositionalism. They all are either logically invalid or unsound.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Can you?

I’ve said this a few times. The answers to souls and the afterlife are linked to religions or gods. Whether they’re real or not is not the point, the point is that we Theists are allowed to have an answer and this doesn’t contradict our definition where the Key word is “belief’ and your definition is “lack of belief”.

You can insist that as often as you like, but it's never -not- an example of your deficient beliefs....do you understand?

That you're plain and simply wrong, but cant believe as much, because of how your specific beliefs have crippled your mind in the face of demonstrable reality..? No? Color me suprised on account of how you fail to imagine a cosmic god any bigger than your stupid human compulsions. Who's the believer, again?

Not you.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

The OP is an exact clone of someone else we've had here recently.

Should we start a game of "count the fallacies"?

So far, I have on my score card:

Genetic fallacy
No true Scotsman
Equivocation
Passing the burden of proof
Unsupported assertion

I am too lazy to go back over this person's ridiculous posts to locate them all, so, all the above can be taken into question.

Anyone have anything else?

If this person ever gets off their ass, and actually tries to make a case for the existence of their god, there is no telling how high the fallacy numbers could get on our score cards.

In this topic I’d like to discuss some definitions and where this leads you as a person.

Can you please describe what and where you are in a belief system? Or no belief system? Or lack of belief?

Once you’ve answered that, can you please answer the following: What can you tell me about souls and the existence of an afterlife?

Thank you.

*Bold mine*

What can you tell us, that you can show evidence for that is ?
