Of laptops and power cords......

RE: Of laptops and power cords......
It seems really weird to me that you dropped your laptop causing it to not charge properly and at the exact same time at least one of your outlets went all wonky.

I'd be questioning the 'repair' and it's possibly looking into an issue with the battery itself.

If the power-jack on the computer got pried by the cord at impact, it be acting intermittently or inefficiently. Couple that with an outlet that for some reason isn't putting out 117 VAC, it might not charge ... in that jack.

Most of our electronics can handle anything from 110V to 130V, 55-65 Hz. Our electric grid is al over the place and it's the only way to make certain everything will run, wherever you are. A wonky outlet <110V simply won't do anything. The built in safety circuits will simply not let the equipment run. If it's >130, the safety circuitry should do the same thing, but it's more prone to failing catastrophically.

Everything seems to be fine now, at least with my laptop. It is 10:40pm I have had the laptop back since 4pm and it says it is 100% fully charged.

I've seen enough insulation failures screw stuff up, but if Brian says it's working it's all good.

The only reason I retired it is I wore out the keyboard.

My IT buddy was impressed. He had never seen a laptop with the letters worn off the keys and hand "heel prints" worn through the outer layer of coloring on the case......

That was over 15 years ago. My Compac running windows 7 is still running fine.

I feel in good company. My laptop is only about a year and a half old and already four of my keys have worn off letters, 3 more are on the way. I chalk it up to using a cloth that had a bit of cleaning agent.

Also, I accidently tripped the cords which pulled it to the floor a few times. My mouse USB port is slightly bent inward but that is the worst it got. Still fully functional. My only problem is that sometimes forget to plug back in my power jack when I take bathroom or food breaks from gaming, and the battery runs down. I am very lucky so far.

Bones refuses to work on Brian's computer saying, "Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor, not a idiot whisperer."

I asked Scotty if he could ABBA proof the internet and he said, "I can't do it, I haven't got the power."

If there's any doubt with a laptop, hit it with a hammer.

It will either start working again, or it won't.

Either way, the problem's solved and you can buy a real computer.
