This is a community, kind of like a retirement home. We're supposed to get along here; that's more important than "winning" arguments.

You're reading to much into people's disagreement. Monkeys pick lice off each other as a form of social bonding. Humans have arguments.
There's an old Irish proverb that expresses it well: Better married and fighting than single and lonely.
And people do things besides argue on forums, so it isn't all spittle and bile.

More like confused teenagers whose parents put them in the psych ward because they started saying unusually eccentric things. It happens to the best of us.
