NASA telescope finds planet in habitible zone

NASA telescopes found a planet which orbits a star like our sun, and probably has a surface temperature of 72 degrees F.

Great! Now all we have to do is make a space probe that can hit half the speed of light (possibly feasible with today's technology) and we can send a probe to arrive somewhere around 1200 years from now and we'll recieve the first signal from it in ~1800 years or so.

If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...

We might get spectralscopic readings of it to determine surface and atmosphere composition, and surface temperature range in the quite near future. But how do we contract and expand space around a ship? Figure that out and we'd be on our way.
