We atheists are hanging out talking to one another, telling jokes, discussing things in the news, sharing what we like to read, eat, listen to, etc....and here come the Christians barging in and preaching...at length.

Who is the aggressor here? Who is being militant?

Anyone know?

The whole bit is trash. Refusing to accept what christianity must be responsible for, in order to compare it to things atheism cannot be responsible for. I wouldn't even take it seriously except for how prevalent the view is among christians who've thoroughly tipped over into the spectrum of political religion. The only use for god in these true believers hearts seems to be stamping whatever party line filth they've heard on hate radio in the last 48 hours.

Gaypedos and babykillers and commies....oh my!
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I still love the quote about the Catholics vs Cathars, "Kill them all, the Lord will recognize his own".

RE: Christianity's Valuable Contributions to Humanity: An Examination of Militant Atheism
Just passing through for now. Been interesting to read the responses.

Grand Nudger: "That's a great example of why I'm a militant atheist."

Ok, so any comments on this? Should I become a "Militant Christian" (presumably one who believes all Atheists are evil, which I don't), in light of it. Here it is again: "According to some sources, the total number of Christian victims under the Soviet regime has been estimated to range around 12 to 20 million. At least 106,300 Russian clergymen were executed between 1937 and 1941."

Oops. That then and there should be the death-knell of Militant Atheism if Militant Atheists are willing to follow the evidence seriously wherever it leads. Militant Atheism has already been tried before, and it led to one of the Greatest Calamities the World has ever known.

Wiki: "The Soviet regime had an ostensible commitment to the complete annihilation of religious institutions and ideas. Communist ideology could not coexist with the continued influence of religion even as an independent institutional entity, so "Lenin demanded that communist propaganda must employ militancy and irreconcilability towards all forms of idealism and religion", and that was called "militant atheism". "Militant" meant an uncompromising attitude toward religion and the effort of winning the hearts and minds of believers from a false philosophy. Militant atheism became central to the ideology of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and a high priority policy of all Soviet leaders. Convinced atheists were considered to be more politically astute and virtuous individuals.

The state established atheism as the only scientific truth. Soviet authorities forbade the criticism of atheism and agnosticism until 1936 or of the state's anti-religious policies; such criticism could lead to forced retirement."

Where do you think modern Western Militant Atheism comes from in the first place? Why, from Soviet Bolshevik Militant Atheism, of course. They too engaged in Propaganda Wars against Christendom, just like those Atheistic and Agnostic French Revolutionaries I mentioned, which even liberal Wiki acknowledges propagated fantasy rather than fact.

Thank God He raised up Good Men and Women again, most of them Devout Christians, like Pope St. John Paul II (of whom even Gorbachev said, "the fall of the Soviet Union would have been impossible without Pope John Paul II" - research the Solidarity Movement in his Native Poland also), President Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, Lech Walesa (again, linked to Solidarity) etc that brought Communism and the Evil Empire down.

Atheists who live in the West should be grateful they had Full Freedoms in Christian Countries, while Poor Christians had none in Atheistic ones.

God Bless.

The term 'Militant Atheist' in the mouth of a believer is short-hand for "You need to sit down and shut up because your challenges to my beliefs are making me uncomfortable."

Poor christians rarely have full freedom in christian countries. In every christian country, it's been christians holding each other down. The largest persecutions of christians in rome, since we're history buffs with an interest in julian, were initiated by the christian emperors themselves.

Julian had seen the thuggery at the beginning, he was a product of it. He correctly predicted what would immediately follow. This is why he believed that for civilization to be saved from it's christian decline the civil religion had to be strengthened. One of the more famous arguments he got himself into could be ripped out of todays headlines. Christians had decided that hellenic tradition and hellenic literature were filth. They objected to it being taught. Yet the wealthy christian influencers continued to send their children to hellenic schools to secure lucrative positions in the hellenic administration. Maybe, Julian explained, if they really believed that shit..they should start their own schools using nothing but their own scriptures and see what that got them?

If one of us logged into a Christian or other theistic site, we would be banned as soon as it was discovered we are atheist.

Here, you will be argued with and challenged but you won't be banned because you believe in magic.
