Not only is it an odd interpretation to take the narrator of one song to be the exact same narrator of another just because they're sung by the same artist, but it's weird to seek moral teaching from a pop song to begin with.  And morality doesn't exist in any real sense anyway.

So, for me, it's a great song in that I subjectively enjoy the beat and melody, and find the lyrics catchy and conveying a clear, relatable story that illuminates the human condition.

If the song applied to a real situation and a real person; as if it was describing her exactly, I would think twice about the advice given when he says:
"If you don't want to cry like I do, I'll keep away from runaround Sue".

I don't believe or understand stuff like these. Love exists for every person, you just have to find the perfect woman for you -vise versa if you were a woman-.

i.e every person needs something. If you don't find what you're looking for, search harder and wait for God to send you your partner.
