How does your WV inform your politics?

That may be a contributing factor. Your chosen name suggests that you're frustrated and your nihilism is a position often associated with angst or discontent. ![]() (August 31, 2023 at 10:08 am)FrustratedFool Wrote: So you think believing their is a link between Islamic/Christian dogma and Muslim/Christian behaviour is an example of the slippery slope fallacy? The Tanakh prescribes the death penalty for breaking Shabbat, but we don't see a lot of stonings for that in Israel these days. Ad Extirpanda prescribes torture for getting suspects to reveal the names of other heretics but the Catholic Church hasn't done a lot of that lately. So because nihilism is often associated with angst, and I am a nihilist, and because my online forum username has 'frustrated' in it, that is enough to assume I am under 18? Fair enough. Sure. But there's plenty of Jews and Muslims who circumcise their boys. Is that not because of the influence of their religion? And a million other acts. Again, I ask, is it fallacious to think that because the Quran/Bible/Torah etc commands X Muslims/ Christians/ Jews etc are more likely to do X? Is there no reasonable link between the dogmas of a religion and the acts of its adherents? I find it hard to accept that as fallacious thinking. We could apply that to any ideology. No link between Nazism and the holocaust? And so on. Doesn't seem a fallacy. But I'm no professor of logic. No, I said it might be a factor. Your tendency to overreact may also be a factor. None of these things are in and of themselves conclusive. ![]() (August 30, 2023 at 10:49 am)FrustratedFool Wrote: Also, are you a Muslim or an adherent to some other religion? I'm interested as to what is motivating your obvious animus here as well as what makes you so emotional on this topic. I'm an atheist and a Taoist, but neither are really relevant. The animus stems from a belief that discriminating against people based upon religious belief is itself as harmful as discriminating on the basis of skin color, sex, or sexual orientation. It comes from a commitment to liberty which is underwritten by a vague utilitarianism. ![]() (August 31, 2023 at 11:01 am)Angrboda Wrote:(August 31, 2023 at 10:48 am)FrustratedFool Wrote: So because nihilism is often associated with angst, and I am a nihilist, and because my online forum username has 'frustrated' in it, that is enough to assume I am under 18? I think there may be a misreading of my passive aggressive sarcasm for overreacting. But fair enough. So what other factors are at play for my posts to imply that I'm under 18? So far we have my username and that I'm a nihilist.
I can personally think whatever I want about a theist, including that s/he's a twat simply for their belief system, but what matters is how I respectfully treat the person to their face.

But what unjust discrimination do you think I've proposed? |
