Texas Republicans Ban Women From Using Highways for Abortion Appointments
Lubbock County, Texas, joins a group of other rural Texas counties that have voted to ban women from using their roads to seek abortions.
At the helm of legislation and the campaign to ban abortion-related transit in Texas is Mark Lee Dickson, a Christian pastor who began pushing communities to outlaw abortion by declaring themselves "sanctuary cities for the unborn" in 2019.
In a statement emailed to Newsweek, Dickson stressed the importance of the ordinance while stating that the travel-related restrictions on abortion, which he refers to as "abortion trafficking," is worthy of being placed in every state in America.
Lubbock's ordinance also comes as Amarillo City Council is expected to weigh its own abortion-related bans on Tuesday, according to Amarillo Globe-News.
This is particularly significant as Lubbock and Amarillo are both traversed by major highways that connect Texas to New Mexico, where abortion is legal.
Voters in the city of Lubbock previously approved of a "sanctuary city" proposition in May of 2021.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

A bit late on the subject, but here are my thoughts on abortion.
Aside from things that have been already said, maybe, an unborn baby, or a fetus, is just tissue and not much else in a woman's body. It is not fully developed in terms of full organs or even a brain, so without a full brain, so without a full brain, how are they capable of living like a person already having been born? That said, I don't think they can feel pain (even if they can get damaged), aborting a fetus is only just like cutting an arm or leg off, or even pulling skin tissue off one's body. It is not really the same as an actual baby or adult getting killed. Also, while actual babies and fetuses still develop, they are still different, so if aborted, they would not even die like born babies or adults die. They just stop developing. The fetus, until birth, is just a part of a woman's body, and it is not the body of the fetus, but the woman's. Like I said, a fetus getting aborted is just the same as a piece of skin getting ripped off of one's body in the end. With that, that is not even counting miscarriages, which are common in life, apparently. If miscarriages can happen, why not abortions? Anyway, since the fetus is connected to the woman with the umbilical cord, and needs it to survive compared to not needing it when born, I'd say, among the other reasons I have said, the fetus can't be given the rights of a fully adult person, or even be given full child's rights, since they can't even do anything while in the womb. They are also not alive in the sense a baby or even a child is alive as well. A fetus is a developing entity with the potential to become an actual baby, but the thing is...it is not one yet, it has not fulfilled that potential. So it is basically not qualified to be a baby. Without fully developed organs and without a fully developed brain, it is not alive in the sense of an actual baby or adult, no matter how much life it may appear to have.
That all said, I do not think the right to live should be given to a fetus, but to be decided by the mother. Giving the fetus that is not born yet, giving a fetus that right would be like giving it the rights of an adult. Technically, a baby; when born; is not given the rights of an 18 or 21 year old adult right away, so why should giving a fetus rights instead of the mother the right to abort be any different from a baby not having adult rights right away?

Many philosophers argue that the human brain isn't the source of consciousness and therefore abortion is murder even if a fetus lacks a fully developed brain.

Why does it matter? There are adults that can't feel pain yet you aren't allowed to kill them.

No one gives a damn what some armchair thinkers say. There is no evidence that consciousness comes from anything other than the brain. So this point is moot. It's even more moot by the simple fact the Fetus regardless of ontological status has no right to the woman's body
Quote:Why does it matter? There are adults that can't feel pain yet you aren't allowed to kill them.
Comparing a fully developed human to a fetus is fallacious. Even more so consider that adult isn't living inside another being against their will
Quote:If car accidents happen why not plow a car into a crowd of people?
False comparison. Even more so when we consider that none of those people are living in someone's body against their will
All your arguments are simply defeated by the fact the ontological state of the fetus doesn't matter compared to the right of the woman to her own body.
Also, Abortion isn't murder as in numerous places it is not unlawful nor is it unjustified.

No one gives a damn what some armchair thinkers say. There are neuroscientists that reject physicalism

Evidence is not enough. You also need adequate explanation. Scientists can't even reproduce a single artificial quale

We are comparing minds not bodies.
