Elon Musk
RE: Elon Musk
Musk was supposed to land Starship on the Moon last year, but instead of admitting that he lied and thus failed, he gives up on the Moon entirely and says he's only interested in Mars.

Quote:Elon Musk: “We’re going straight to Mars. The Moon is a distraction.”

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

More exploration of Mars sounds great. But I am not so sure about landing people on it. Isn't it a far harsher environment than Earth or the Moon, especially with regards to exposure to radiation?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

That’s what space suits are for. And I imagine the radiation exposure on Luna would be much harsher than on Mars due to the Martian atmosphere being much thicker, and Mars being much farther from the sun.

But I’m not an astrophysicist (I just play one on message boards), so I could be wrong.

RE: Elon Musk
9 months ago, 60 Minutes aired a segment about NASA's return to the Moon, and you can see that they relied on Musk's promise that his Spaceship would play a significant role, but over time they realized they had been duped by Musk and hired Bezos' Blue Origin to develop the lander, slowing the return to the moon.

And it is frightening to think that NASA could have been duped by Musk's unrealistic promises (I guess they also fell for thinking that he's real life Tony Stark). He promised that the Starship and boosters would be reusable as airplanes, able to land and fly again after a few checkups. That is why he was building that booster catcher: the plan was for them to fly to space, refuel the Spaceship, return, be refueled, fly to space again, and so on. As a result, the spaceship is refueled ten times during its journey to the Moon. Needless to say, this never worked.

It's also a one-way trip for whoever volunteers for the mission. There isn't any technology in existence for a return trip back to earth. They'll either die during the trip there, or on mars. It's a harsh reality.

Elmos got it solved. All he needs to find is a few hundred rockets full of women to inseminate.

It’s not inherently undoable. The dangers of getting to Mars, living on Mars, and getting back from Mars can be overcome with improvements in technology.

Going to Mars is not impossible. Silly, stupid, and pointless, sure. But not impossible.
