Well, I'd say it is fallacious, not dumb necessarily, though it is silly to imagine logical fallacies and the principles of logic can be waved away in a debate. However it is pretty simple, in this fallacy, apologists select man made objects, or objects we know are designed and created, but we know this because the objective evidence is overwhelming, then equate those to the natural things like the universe, life, nature etc etc, despite us having no objective evidence they are designed or created. 

It's a false equivalence fallacy. They will cite a similarity, but it is fallacious to claim this makes them the same. 

@Drew_2013, someone else said this, but it's apropos, we can see people designing motherboards, we can see every stage of it, we can see, and understand, every stage of them being created, now point out the design offices and factories making universes, otherwise this is why the comparison fails.

Beyond silly is desperate.  Drew should try selling his ideas to people he could actually help, like young-earth creationists or something.

Well I did tell him, he needs to understand his core market, this is not it, I think he knows this, but a) doesn't fully understand why, and b) can't accept that there are people who neither believe a deity exists, or need the belief. 

I won't try to claim my life has been hard, nor has it been entirely easy, but a deity would add nothing to it, even were anyone able to offer any objective evidence for one.
