Today has been a pretty good day.

The custom keychain I ordered from AliExpress has arrived.

Yes, it translates to “eat people.” I actually tried to order something similar from Etsy, but the vendor chickened out the second he saw the two characters he’d have to calligraphize. Fortunately, due to actually being from China, I guess that they were more familiar with the Lu Xun story “Diary of a Madman” this references. Only problem I have is that it’s a bit on the flimsy side. I think I might need to get a little piece of plastic to glue it on.

Also, this week at Trivia Night, Dad and I not only won first place, but we also got almost every question right. The only one we missed was what team some football player who won the Super Bowl once currently coaches.

My computer crashed and when it rebooted I was greeted with a black screen. I was unable to fix it so I'm restoring from backup Watching baseball and thinking about dinner while it restores the backup.

We were expecting some weather from Polo by now, we had maybe 25mm of rain two days ago but it's just otherwise been just cloudy and humid. Sometimes these grazing hurricanes are nothing, in but the civil authority is still warning of flooding and mudslides, which don't even require local rain to happen (we live in the shadow of the Sierra Madre range). We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Fixing some spacing issues concerning the file and folder names of some audiobooks. Between Libation, Windows, and Linux, it gets rather tricky.

I finished testing the new hard drives. They're in excellent health with 0 grown defects and 17K, 17K, and 22K hours on them. Buying from a quality seller paid off.

We finally received a band of weather from Polo, a couple of hours of epic rain and lightning but no wind to speak of. Predictably, the usual streets are flooded. Civil authorites caught a crocodile loose in the marina district.

Is this a hobby with you or do you have practical need for the capacity you only get with spinny drives?

I feel like 2010 was the beginning of a new era of my life because that was the year I started using SSDs exclusively. Good riddance to mechanical drives and all their issues. I thought about a RAID for a video library but streaming seems like a better solution. Let someone else go through the agony of maintaining a RAID! Same thing with flight simulation. Scenery takes up a ton of space but the speed of an SSD allows it to be used as a buffer for streamed scenery. No need to maintain terabytes of data anymore.

It's part hobby and part need. I've got a lot of old data and being a computer geek, I acquire new data at a fast clip.

Just got home.

Going to have a shower - a LONG shower - and go to bed.
