Words are like a burden carried by the ones that choose to carry them. I personally choose not to. I even allow them to stay on my youtube page, as they're too amusing to ignore. Now, the bulk of the time, I completely agree with you. I can't stand censorship. However, even I have my limits. It's not the word, but the disparagement behind the word that bothers me. It is sheer ignorance to hate an entire group of people based purely on where they live and any stigma that has built up about people who live in that area. For example, I could say, "What's up, fag?" to any one of my friends and get a "Not much, dyke." and a hug. It's accepted in that group that such words aren't really offensive because they are not meant as such. When you mean to be offensive, it's different.

Well it certainly is much different when such words are used in official statements. But over the internet...meh, really, I could care less if someone hates Turks and calls us whatever he wants to call us. And they do. I personally am delighted to see people being furious like that. To be honest, I don't even know what it means. Kilic uses really obscure insults. At least, they are obscure to me. However, the tone with which he uses them makes it easy to figure out what he's talking about.

Yes, but no one is disparaging Turks here. I will admit, it is amusing when an ignorant person goes on a tangent about some ethnicity or another. It's interesting that you find it amusing too. You're willing to be that which you obviously disdain. (January 24, 2012 at 9:10 pm)kılıç_mehmet Wrote: This one was not even an insult. I only use them to get a reaction out of people, not to pronounce my own reaction. Quote:It is an insult, though. I have since Googled it and educated myself. It's a derogatory term, Kilic. It's not even an umbrella term. Doesn't apply to the majority of European nations. Üze Tengri basmasar, asra Yir telinmeser, Türük bodun ilingin törüngin kim artatı udaçı erti?
Bah, I'm more familiar with excuses than I am with racist remarks from over yonder.
Using particular language to get a rise out of people is flaming. That's generally considered bad conduct. |
