The Decline and Fall of the United States of America
January 31, 2012 at 12:34 am
Okay so my country, America, is basically a lost cause. Here are some common American beliefs:
Belief 1: Socialism = Communism
Belief 2: This nation was founded on Christianity.
Belief 3: There is no evidence for evolution.
Belief 4: Atheists are bad people.
Belief 5: The rich in America pay enough taxes.
Belief 6: Our military expenditure is not enough, if anything.
What the frack, America? The fact that I had to use the word "common" in the above premise is enough to qualify you as a nation of true idiocy. I'm sorry, but your empire is through. You've reached your zenith point and are now experiencing the descent. You are in decline. You are no longer a nation of intellectuals and shakers and movers, but you are a nation of fat, lazy, ungrateful, and frankly moronic zombies beholden to the corporate media.
I'm not going to tell you "you need to do this and that". No. It's over. You're done. You're through. There is nothing you can do to save your precious country. The best thing you can do as an individual is to get out before it gets bad - really bad. Emigrate before everyone else does and you're more likely to find security elsewhere.

We are, of course, doomed.
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOmed!
Be that as it may America has a thicker skin that most of us give it credit for. There was a time when America wasn't the #1 at anything in the world and it looks like we may be headed in that direction again. That doesn't mean America will collapse into nothing, but it might mean we'll loose bragging rights until we get our shit together again and come out at or near the top again.
We have that ability - we just need to deal with the rampant corruption in government.
If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...
Ignorance and fanaticism are ever busy and need feeding. Always feeding and gloating for more. Today it is the public school teachers; tomorrow the private. The next day the preachers and the lecturers, the magazines, the books, the newspapers. After a while, Your Honor, it is the setting of man against man and creed against creed until with flying banners and beating drums we are marching backward to the glorious ages of the sixteenth centry when bigots lighted fagots to burn the men who dared to bring any intelligence and enlightenment and culture to the human mind. ~Clarence Darrow, at the Scopes Monkey Trial, 1925
Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. ~Ronald Reagan

Belief 1 if incorrect, the US media has no idea about political structure, in the UK Obama would be a Conservative, albeit a centre right one. But in america that equates to socialism which equates to communism which means he's a born again Trotskyist.
This is a real socialist:

That sterotype doens't reflect my demographic, maybe move to a different city or state?

The problem with #6 is that any politician seriously considering cutting the military budget will be met with claims of "He doesn't support the troops!" "He's cutting the pay of our hard working and brave soldiers!" "He wants our well-armed enemies to attack us and our troops won't have good weapons to defend us with!" "He's a traitor, hang him for treason!" It would be political suicide to suggest cutting the bloated military budget and spending that money on something everyone could use, like health care. And the loudest calls will be coming from the conservatives who love supporting the troops as long as they're not gay, and supporting the military-industrial complex.

Which demographic is that? His description is quite acurate of the average American. The only part I disagree with is that we're doomed, but I would be amiss not to think that it's going to take a lot of work and change not to completely fall behind all other countries.

your list is accurate, but your prophecies of doom make me highly skeptical.
We have vast amounts of natural resources compared to most other countries.

And also as long as they aren't one of them. Conservatives love to send other people's children off to fight.

Quote:When an American male (or an especially belligerent female) makes the challenging transition from late adolescence into early adulthood, he is faced with many decisions. One certain, specific combination of choices will result in his becoming a chickenhawk: choosing to “support” war, while also choosing not to serve in the military. His motto becomes: “Let’s you and him go fight; I’ll hold your coat.”

I asked the 8 people in cubicles around me if that was their view and at the most each only chose one reflected their view at most, and non of them thought America was doomed for that reason. We're all average American's most of them are atheist or anti-religion, all make about the same thing, all work in the IT field and are roughtly 30-40. That's the demographic I used as a reference.
