Cliff Stearns vs. Planned Parenthood

Cliff Stearns vs. Planned Parenthood
The Komen for the cure story:

Republican congressman (surely with the support of his entire party world wide) puts the hammer down on the Komen group. If the right wing cant make abortion illegal, then they can shut it down through the back door. Here is the reference:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3y6FPEFR...re=related
conservapedia praised them:
Quote:Pro-Life WIN: Komen for the Cure ends their relationship with Planned Parenthood. This includes prevention screenings, education and $700,000 in annual grants. [31]
[31]Citing an article to Fox news: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/01/31/sus...arenthood/
Faux Noose Wrote:Komen spokeswoman Leslie Aun told The Associated Press that the cutoff results from the charity's newly adopted criteria barring grants to organizations that are under investigation by local, state or federal authorities.
this new criteria was the result of Republican lawmakers using their power to put fear into komen to get them to stop giving money to Planned Parenthood.
Faux Noose Wrote:Planned Parenthood has been a continuous target of protests, boycotts and funding cutoffs because it is the largest provider of abortions in the nation. With almost 800 health centers in the U.S., the federation provides other services such as birth control, testing for sexually transmitted diseases and cancer screening.
fox even admits that PP has been targetted for defunding.

Once this happened Planned Parenthood gained 600,000+ dollars in private donations to help keep it floating. The Komen group had a MASSIVE infight over this, and some branch groups didnt even follow the command to pull funds. The Komen group reverses their forced decision

Planned parenthood is now BETTER OFF than it was before this whole crap storm happened, the kind of success that was unforseen and not planned. Of course, Conservapedia waves their fist in the air and in true conservative fashion rewrites history to serve their purpose by calling it "liberalism" and a "failure". Strange how they would consider it a "failure" when most of the conservapedians consider gaining money as "success". They also say that Komens stance on saving lives is "cast in doubt" but fails to mention that the LAST fox article they referenced admitted that PP did a SHITLOAD of breat cancer screenings and work that definitely saved lives:
Quote:Komen for the Cure chokes under the spotlight, agrees to reinsert funding to Planned Parenthood. The failure of liberalism cannot be stopped. Their abortion stance has cost them their reputation and their mission of saving women's lives is now cast in doubt. [15]
[15] again referencing a fox news article: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/02/...od-grants/
Quote:Americans United for Life President Charmaine Yoest called the incident "unfortunate."
"As a breast cancer survivor, I am troubled that the Komen Foundation has come under such heavy fire for their recent decision to tighten and focus their funding guidelines," Yoest said, calling the backlash "an ugly and disgraceful shakedown that highlights Planned Parenthood's willingness to pursue a scorched-earth strategy to force compliance with their pro-abortion agenda."
She also described the congressional investigation by Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., as "substantive."
Stearns said in a statement that he would continue his investigation. He said the donations pouring into Planned Parenthood over the Komen decision show the group does not need Komen funding.
"I believe that Planned Parenthood could be, and should be, totally self sufficient, as with so many other non-profit organizations, and spare America's hard-pressed taxpayers the $487 million Planned Parenthood received in public funding," he said.
But Komen is a private organization. Stearns makes it sound as if komen is in the governments employ and not also being hounded by Stearns. But also, think about what Stearns said. He is saying that one private organization should not help another private organization. That planned parenthood should be 100% self sufficient. Surely he doesnt mean this. Would Stearns start an federal investigation over a church for receiving money from another church? No.
On Stearns:
Quote:As Chairman of the Energy & Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, Stearns conducted the first-ever oversight on taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider. National Public Radio reported, "Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest single provider of abortions, yet it gets millions of dollars in federal funding with which to provide other services." .[15]
The investigation was started in response to an investigative report released in July 2011 by the pro-life organization Americans United for Life (AUL). [16] According to AUL, "Audits of Planned Parenthood affiliates in California, New Jersey, New York, and Washington State demonstrate a pattern of overbilling and abuse involving Medicaid funds, and in at least Washington even charging drugs used in an abortion as 'family planning.' Furthermore, State audit reports and admissions by former Planned Parenthood employees detail a pattern of misuse of federal funds by some Planned Parenthood affiliates."[17]
The investigation was sweeping, requesting internal audits dating back 12 years and state audits for the past 20 years for the national organization and all 83 of its affiliates. Representative Henry Waxman questioned the political motivations for the timing of the investigation, saying, "Your fervent ideological opposition to Planned Parenthood does not justify launching this intrusive investigation."[18]

No matter how ridiculous things get, I don't foresee a move like this ever having a permanent affect on Planned Parenthood. Just like in this case, people respect and value them too much to let it happen.

RE: Cliff Stearns vs. Planned Parenthood
It was clearly a political move. I wonder how he feels about churches being 100% self suficient as well, or if he backs govt money in the "dept of faith based initiatives" being given to them no questions asked?

Epic win! Party Time
"Sisters, you know only the north; I have traveled in the south lands. There are churches there, believe me, that cut their children too, as the people of Bolvangar did--not in the same way, but just as horribly. They cut their sexual organs, yes, both boys and girls; they cut them with knives so that they shan't feel. That is what the Church does, and every church is the same: control, destroy, obliterate every good feeling. So if a war comes, and the Church is on one side of it, we must be on the other, no matter what strange allies we find ourselves bound to."

I vote against Stearns in every election.
