Thoughts on Buddhism
RE: Thoughts on Buddhism
I must confess that Rythmn did tell me in another thread that I shouldn't do things just because they are fun.

I can't help but wonder if that attitude is an emergent property of having an atheistic view on life?

Some other atheists come across as being super somber as well.
Christian - A moron who believes that an all-benevolent God can simultaneously be a hateful jealous male-chauvinistic pig.
Wiccan - The epitome of cerebral evolution having mastered the magical powers of the universe and is in eternal harmony with the mind of God.
Atheist - An ill-defined term that means something different to everyone who uses it.

Their appearance must be much like parents are to a child: The parents are often fine and happy, but the child sees the admonishment as evidence of the apocalypse.

Rhythm told you that you shouldn't use words or terms "because it's fun" when attempting to clearly communicate ideas, with specific regards to science and philosophy.

That, to you, says something about atheism? No, that would say something about me, at the very best. Unless you're willing to propose that every atheist (or even just the small collection of atheists here on this forum) is exactly like me, at least in this regard. What does have emergent properties? Aren't they ghostly apparitions? Why ask a rational person about ghostly apparitions? Sounds like magic to me.....
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. Haha you guyz are speaking so cryptically now that I am confounded. Btw, Rythym, you aint so bad, perhaps you got alot more personality than a cardboard box after all! I just want to say that just because science is sacred, and the electronic age is effervescent, that don't mean we can't still be humanistically superfluous. I dont have any more hangups, I just want to praise Buddha for givin me a glimpse into his P.O.V.

I find it amazing that people so love to hate each other.

And all in the name of spirituality. Even if the people in question are atheists.

I mean, I can understand hatred and mud being slung at the Abrahamic religions. Especially Christianity and Islam. Since those two religions spread so much hatred in the name of their Gods toward others.

Even the original religion of Judaism doesn't seem to be founded nearly on as much hatred as Islam and Christianity.

But what did Buddhism ever do to people to make them hate it so much?

Atheists seem to think that it's cool to just put down anyone who has the slightest spiritual beliefs anymore. It's becoming a fad where atheists do this as a standard knee-jerk reaction to anything that's even remotely spiritual.

It's truly unbelievable.

Believing in a secular world is one thing.

But if that belief is going to cause people to have absolutely no respect for anyone who doesn't also support an atheistic view of reality then what has it become?

It has itself become a "religion", or worse yet a cult, just like the Abrahamic religions that renounce anyone who refuses to climb on board as being a 'worthless heathen' unworthy of respect.

It's truly unbelievable how ignorant humans become in matters of spirituality, whether it be a belief in spirituality, or the rejection of those beliefs.

Hatred seems to be a core trait of the human condition I guess.

It's pretty sad.

But then again, what should we expect from a planet filled with spoiled half-evolved apes?

I guess it's just the reality of the situation.

You haven't demonstrated that there is anything spiritual to be ignorant about. Until you do so, exactly what grounds do you have for such a comment? You sound exactly like a christian evangelical at this point, trying to argue your way into atheism being a religion or cult. Clap

But atheism is becoming a popular cult as this very forum shows.

In fact, they should rename it to Hatetheism.

If you're not a member of the cult you're deemed to be a heathen cursed with stupidity. The only way into the cult is through a confession that there can be no spiritual essence to reality and through the total repentance of any secret thoughts that such a thing might even be remotely possible.

I mean, gee whiz I'm a mere spiritual agnostic just pondering the possibility of a spiritual essence to reality with an OPEN MIND, and the Hatethesists have decided to socially crucify me as a complete idiot for merely keeping an OPEN MIND.

And now they're going around kicking Buddha in the balls.

Talk about a violent cult.

All all the poor Buddha wanted to do was get snuffed out of existence altogether (that what Nirvana means - to snuff out). If you stop and think about it Siddhartha was the ultimate atheist. He believed that life is an endless cycle of death and rebirth in reincarnation called samsara. All he wanted to do was to get out of it. (i.e. finally die once and for all and not come back to the stupidity and suffering of life).

Buddha was the ultimate atheist.

And now modern atheists are chomping at the bit wanting to kick him in the balls and cause him even more pain and suffering.

How crazy is that?

Is it any wonder why he wanted to get out of this nightmare of life when he was living in a world filled with such hostile apes.

I personally don't blame him.
