Childhood repression - new 'rape game'

Childhood repression - new 'rape game'
Okay, so there's this school in Minnesota, where apparently the schoolchildren have created a game called 'rape tag.' I'm not sure if that's what they call it, but that's what the article calls it anyway.
http://news.yahoo.com/rape-tag-disgustin...00938.html
Here's the article.
Now, there seems to be a lot of sensitivity about normal childhood sexual behavior, in the comments section and in the article itself. The children are playing a game where they hump each other for their own amusement and enjoyment - a fantasy, not built upon rape whatsoever.
Isn't it just normal explorative sex play, which is normal behaviour for children? I don't think it would be beneficial to repress sexual curiosity in children, curiosity which is ultimately harmless and quite beneficial.
Don't you think the teachers, the parents, and some in the comments section over-reacted to this?
If I was in the position to end this, I wouldn't. It seems completely harmless. When I was young, there were lots of games 'worse' than that.
What do you think?

Pfft. If my kid came home from that school with a letter saying he was playing rape tag, I would tell him what rape is and why humping motions are considered inappropriate. Of course, I would PG it down quite a bit, but I wouldn't shit myself over it. The sooner the kid knows what rape is, the sooner he knows it is bad.

Was it a Catholic school? Then they probably learned it from the priests.

"It's just upsetting that kids are familiar with the word rape at such an early age, whether they understand it or not."

What the fuck. Would you be upset if your kids knew the word 'murder'? What about 'torture' or 'genocide'? What about 'war' or 'terrorism'? No, you're plenty fine with kids hearing them but 'rape' is just too far. It seems violence and violence related crimes have been normalized in the media whereas sex and sexual crimes are still very taboo. Kids are still allowed to pretend to kill each other (and watch depictions of people being killed) while sex crimes are utterly and unspeakably heinous.

The article isn't written as well as it could be and I don't feel I can really draw any conclusions from it. I don't even know who was calling it 'rape tag'. The article is provocatively titled, presumably so that they're able to generate knee jerk reactions from their consumers. As you read on, you discover the premise isn't actually based on rape at all.

However you are dealing with fifth graders, my son is in sixth grade so they know exactly what they were doing, one or two may be due to go with the flow. Kids are not dumb, remember when you were one, the sweet innocent looks the I know I am in some kind of trouble so how do I get out of this thoughts.

Some of the stories my son brings home have definity shock and dismayed me, and no Shell B I do not PG the version, he is given full access to the information about the subject, which honestly has brought some wonderful conversations and me looking for the damn script the doctor gave me.

Kids are more prone to tell you to fuck off then anyone else, seriously look at their future, the world does not make it so bright anymore, the religious freaks that claim the end of the world is coming, the scientist which give close to the same results, economy wrap that all up and here you go kids, here is your future. So why wouldn't they want to live as much as they can, to them their time is running out soon.

And just how long did it take the teachers at recess to notice this type of behaviour at recess.

That's what I was thinking. If they were playing the 'murder game', or the 'torture game', just for a joke, it wouldn't raise many eyebrows, I'm quite sure. I can't judge it because I don't really understand what was going on. It seems though that they slipped 'rape game' in there unnecessarily.

Back in my day, only a super long 15 years ago, we played freeze tag and even THAT was too much for the teachers to handle/tolerate.

I can only imagine what games they played in Min's youth. Pharaoh tag?
