Fucking Governmnent...

Nigel Robinson from Hull said he called police after trying to download music but instead finding pornographic images on his laptop last November.
This is just going to encourage people not to report child porn when they find it on their computers, since apparently even though you are reporting it, it makes you a suspect (seriously, how does that even work?).

I'm not sure how you're going to find child pornography on your computer without having downloaded it yourself.

Did you not read the article? He was trying to download music, and instead got child porn. People can put child porn in any download if they want to.
In addition, malware is often used to spread child porn, with victims computers storing it and spreading it over the internet. There is also the danger of CSRF attacks tricking your browser into downloading it.

I think that such things are not really common, but I found it quite peculiar that he chose to report child pornography in his own computer. Most people would probably have deleted it right away.

Because the laws are no longer upheld in good faith. They are now almost 100% upheld word for word and they have found that much profit can be made from them. We in America are just as bad. We have private prison systems, where their owners take OUR money and use it to buy off politicians to make EVERYTHING illegal. More people going to jail ='s more profit for the corporations.
I personally think people in this world, especially america, go fucking BATSHIT over things like this. Im suprised people havent been calling for his execution yet.

My Wifes uncle got charged for something almost identical in Scotland. He rather naively reported it to the police in the hope they could track down the person sharing (I did say naive). They did no such thing, but instead arrested him.
Lesson to be learnt: If you come across it, wipe it completely and don't tell anyone.
Sad state of affairs. If you are going into a police station to declare you have found child pornography via filesharing, thats got to be pretty reasonable grounds for doubt that you did so intentionally.
Stupid stupid.

If you’re going to watch tele, you should watch Scooby Doo. That show was so cool because every time there’s a church with a ghoul, or a ghost in a school. They looked beneath the mask and what was inside?

It all goes back to this kids:

As a computer geek my first instinct would be to delete it rather than report it unless it involved someone I knew directly. I am not sure what action he expected the police to take. If it was a photo or video randomly downloaded it could have come from anywhere

I probably would have reported it. Naive or not, if there is any way to trace it, I want to be sure I gave them the chance to try.

I have bad news for you, my friends: all those compromising photos and videos that once were on your digital device are still there today! When you thought you deleted them you didn't actually delete them, but you only trashed the 'headers' and icons of those files. The stuff you can see on your desktop. That's gone. But the files themselves are not. They are still there, and any software engineer can retrieve them, even years later!
So while you don't even know yourself that you have compromising material on your PC or other digital devices, you do IRL! And 'they' can nab you for it! Which is e.g. why TSA checks are so dangerous.
Still like your digital devices as much...?
