I started out giving them benefit of the doubt, then quickly realized that was a naive move on my part.

Hmmm I guess I can move this to the humour section.
ETA: Done.
But it's still not funny... Seriously folks, if you think this is humor, then you probrably laughed at "Farce of the Penguins".
Funny is funny, lol type jokes. The Pope has the physique of a God! (he has the body of Christ) Hell isn't all fire and brimstone. Hell is wading in shit and piss up to you lower lip. All day long all you can hear is "don't make waves, don't make waves...". And every Sunday, Satan goes water skiing. (* I forget who told this joke, Carlin maybe?) If he can predestine Satan's actions in this way, then Satan is a sock-puppet, and the whole schema of Yahweh's righteous wrath against rebellion and "sin" collapses. What "rebellion?" If he can't, if Satan has his own agency, then all Satan has to do to bottle Yahweh up in his jewelry-box castle forever is not play along. * Violet laughs a bit. It's humor, but not the kind that is meant to provoke significant laughter. It's the kind of humor that's meant to make a mockery of the subject matter.
These stories are ridiculous in the first place. I just used satire to draw attention to that fact. (May 10, 2013 at 1:31 pm)John V Wrote: Poe's law doesn't just apply to theists ya know. While you are at it, you may as well move the entire subject of Christianity there as well. Don't you think? I mean, come on, magic underwear, talking donkeys, exploding homosexuals, and camping trips inside fish, how is that not an attempt at humor? How is this subject supposed to be taken seriously? I'm with Richard Dawkins on this subject: "These people need to be ridiculed. You should ridicule them." And he got that for being a biologist, a subject which he's contributed very well to. Watching him in a debate, though? * Violet cringes. Plenty of other people share his career choice... but you don't hear about most of those people. While he's making 20K per speech, they're working year round for 2 to 4 times that (usually depending on how long they've been at it). Not everyone can be a scientific celebrity, yknow?
