"I'll pray for you."

I never said anything about my conversion to any religion. I said that you guys praying won't be what causes it. What will cause that to happen is evidence showing not only that a given god exists, but that he or she or it is worthy of my worship.

Now, granted, if your god heard your prayers and wanted me to convert, that would be the way to do it, so in some sense your prayers would be the cause, but the physical act of praying itself won't suddenly make me see the light. Tongue

We know nothing, We understand that prayers are as complex as pressing 2 open hands together and speaking or thinking a wish to a figure in one's imagination, as fun as it might be.

We are not loyal to prayer because it is not loyal to us. Not in the past either. Prayer should be something We can rely on for reliable results. Consistently.

The same can be said for the lotteries. Few win money beyond what they paid, the excruciating majority pay the lottery more than the lottery pays them. Is it not hurtful to see so many impoverished people fating their future on the next 30 million jackpot?

There is no reason to put one's fate into chance, because if You want something done, do it yourself. Or at least get the support from others to help You accomplish those goals. We are not lonely creatures, We do not need imaginary friends. If only people who close themselves off from others would be more open, maybe We could fix the biggest of problems.

And prayer, is not an option.
Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die, and be free of pain, or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!

You must be wary of them, if their prayers don't work, they might try to accomplish the task of sending you to hell themselves!

So how can you know that every prayer isn't answered consistently? I find this an astounding claim.
Prayers are always answered according to Gods will. 100% consistently.

Absolutely we have a duty to do everything humanity possible to solve problems. Prayer isn't a substitute for practical action.

They think there helping, and if they feel all warm and fuzzy inside that's fine...but it has no relevance to me.

I agree with this. I've lost close family members in the recent last including my brother, and now my dad has terminal cancer so will die in the next few months.

Naturally a few people will say 'you're in my prayers', but really, that doesn't mean a thing to me. Why not donate some money to cancer research or Macmillan cancer nurses? I know for a fact that many of the people who have given me the prayer spiel haven't done anything beyond clasp their hands together.

And besides, I'm not egotistical enough to think that my plight would warrant the attention of a big dude in the sky. There are tens of millions of people in much worse a position than I am. Why would I suddenly be the person who gets prayers answered? And which god would be the one supposedly helping out?

Anyway, its all Irrelevant to me. If people feel happy thinking they're doing something then they can pray 24 hours a day if they want. It's not going to change the outcome.
