Yet another Christian-to-Atheism conversion
June 29, 2013 at 2:51 am
This must be getting old, huh?
I was born and raised an Orthodox Christian. Even though I was born in Dubai and lived for the first four years of my life in a Islamic society, my parents and relatives are Orthodox Christians. I was pretty indifferent until I reached the age of 16, when I said to myself "I should learn more about my faith. I should get to know Christ."
So I started reading the Bible. Wow, was I disappointed. I went on a journey of wisdom, learning about different religions. The more I learned, the more I understood that I have been living a lie. So I reached my final destination, which included videos disproving God, debates, articles, George Carlin, evolution. Time had passed, I made my decission.
I actually believed in creation until then! :o Silly me.
Romanians are generally religious, you can find churches everywhere, dumb rituals and holidays. My parents aren't the type of people who go to church every week, just the occasional candle and some silent prayers. And when I told them I'm giving up on Christianity and religion as a whole, they just said "k, cool".
I hope I can learn more by communicating with gents and dames who share my views.

Hello and welcome to AF! ^_^
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Nothing will make you an atheist faster than reading that ancient comic book.
So how long have you had your new found freedom?
But don't stop there. Read read read.
Hitchens, Harris, Dawkins, Victor Stinger, Ayaan Hersi Ali ........ And others are all must reads for atheists.

Welcome aboard!
Technically speaking, when one stops believing in Christianity (any religion, actually), it is not a conversion, it is a deconversion.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Hearing people come to the realization that their religion isn't real never gets old.
Welcome to the realm of the godless.
