Cool idea for a thread, Maelstrom. It was fun reading about what inspired you all .. though I do note we are missing a few still.

In choosing my username, I didn't like that it sounds a bit like a disinterested reply.

It was more about looking for answers to the big questions. I like the idea of staying open to whatever we may discover. That works as the best frame of mind to have when pursuing science but also in regards to religion and metaphysical questions. There is no need to stake out and defend any particular piece of turf. No loyalties. Let the chips fall where they may. Whatever may come.

My first user name was Doctor Agenda, I created it for a gaming forum, and thought it sounded like a good super-villain name. Next forum I joined, I changed it to Mister Agenda, 'cause outside the game context people might assume I'm a physician otherwise. My avatar is notalgic of the time I was Doctor Agenda.

I learned to read and write really young, and everyone always called me Becca. When I went to school, I decided I wanted to be *Re*becca. In kindergarten, we had those big fat pencils with no erasers on the ends, and I found myself writing my name R-e-B (cross out the capital B)-b-e-c-c-a. For months, all of my papers from school that were tacked on the refrigerator had the name "ReXbecca" neatly written at the top. Eventually, I got sick of it and went back to "Becca" and no one except my ex boyfriend's mother calls me anything else. I had the nickname until the day my dad died, but I've carried it on through my forum usernames because, you know, I rock :p

I thought I covered the nutty creationist shit but I never heard the other part of it. Just that he was a former used furniture salesman who was teaching English as a Second Language with a phony "doctorate" in archaeology from some bible-based diploma mill.

Hugely boring, when compared to the rest of you. 'Rae' is a nickname I've had for years. Raeven seemed better than Raedar, Raegun, Raeless, Raeon or Raediation.

Sparty is short for Spartacus. My friends from High School thought I looked like Kirk Douglas from the 1960 film, and the nickname stuck. The Bad Writer part isn't hard to figure out; I'm better at absorbing information than I am at expressing it.
