Sad Scenario: Is He Your Husband or Your Project?

Sad Scenario: Is He Your Husband or Your Project?
Wife: That’s it! I’ve had it. I’ve given you the best twenty years of my life. I’ve done everything I know how to do, but you’re hopeless. You’ll never change.

Husband: I never asked you to change me.

And he walks out.

********

When I was a teenager, my stepfather told me to accept a man as he is or leave him alone. That’s true. The only man a woman can ever change is her son, and that only up until he’s potty trained.

So what are you looking at:” a husband or a project?
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

I may defend your right to free speech, but i won't help you pass out flyers.

The opposite is true to me. We are meant to change and not remain in same state.

Yes, but would you start dating someone with the expectation that they would change to suit your whims? Or just find someone who also suits you, and start dating that one?

True. I would hate to be the same person I was twenty years ago or think that I've exhausted my potential to improve myself. And that is the key. I change myself. I socialize with people who will help me be the person I want to become.

I would not disrespect another adult by demanding that he be what I want him to be.

No one wants to feel like a fixer-upper.  But over the course of 20 years, if the furniture's arranged the same way as it ever was, the paint's peeling, the mold's set in...nothing very attractive about that, either.

Why did he need to change and who set the standard?

Paul Newman said it right.
The trick is to grow and change together in the same direction.
