RE: What has AtheistForums.org meant to you?
November 16, 2013 at 7:01 pm
Five years ago or so, I started over at .com and met some really great people. I even fell in love with one of them which was great until he broke my heart. I started getting bored over there, though, for some of the same reasons as c172 and Min, but I still craved being a part of an intelligent community, so I came here and I haven't left since.
This forum is intelligent but also actually fun, funny, and supportive. I really appreciate you guys.

It was my place to come out as an atheist because I live amongst christians.
They barely even follow their religion but are proud to be a follower. :|
1 day they will learn.

AF.org was my saviour after I got banned at AF.com for supposedly being a pretend-atheist troll. I had just deconverted and they weren't believing me. So AF.org helped me to stay sane by being able to talk to like-minded people during a very critical stage in my life.

Hard to say. It's a lot of things, I came here just to talk about things I guess, and possibly argue with religious people, I'd hoped other religious people reading these online may sway their beliefs and thinking clearly without the fear of hell is always a good thing. I also haaate it when people make decisions about health/life/marriage based on stupid things like superstition and tradition, and ultimately a lot of that comes down to not understanding that faith does not correspond with reality. So I thought this would be a good place to say what I think and hopefully change some minds.
Now I like coming here because people are nice, funny and very smart, and I like reading coherent and opposing arguments regarding different topics. Theists here are (some of you) bat shit crazy so that adds to the entertainment.

The avatars of AF members are disgusting, yet I still come back. Such is the internet.

An escape. Sometimes I come here when I can't sand the people around me. Such as right now.

Tits, mostly. I'd pretend a conversion if christian sites were more amicable towards boobs. The atheist angle is a happy coincidence.
Actually, I wrote the above a bit dyslexically. Moving back to the bible belt suddenly put me in a position of not knowing anyone, and being religiously accosted by strangers. It's pleasant having a hangout where no one pre-judges my life or use of language.
Plus, there's no Dutch here that I'm aware of. Fuck them!

This is actually the first atheist forum I have joined.
Before coming here, I tried to find a niche in general religious debate forums. Unfortunately, one was overrun by theists pretending the site was for open debate while another forum banned me for some silly reason.
I feel this is the first forum since Bolt that I can call home. I have genuinely grown to care for the members here, and I hope to be here for a long time.
