I'd be like, "Man, someone must've slipped me some awesome drugs."

Quote:Not that you believe, but let's just say that you lived and witness Jesus as He is described in Scripture. Out of curiosity, you listened to Him speak, you saw him heal, you witnessed the miracles, etc. How would you of reacted?

In my lifetime I've learned only liars claim to supernaturally heal, perform miracles and so on. So I'd assume jesus was lying.

If on the other hand jesus performed miracles like healing me. sorting out my knee and shoulder aches I get then yeh I'd probably follow Jesus at least for a bit and listen to what he has to say.
I think I'd at least owe him that.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

It is interesting to ask such a question. Here, you are asking me to assume that Jesus of Nazareth was a real person; that he was actually the son of (a) god; and that he actually performed the miracles as represented in scripture. I wonder if such a question is a precursor to an argument for the existence of god...

I would have, most likely, convinced him to endow me with superpowers too. As long as we are playing make believe, can Jesus zap me and turn me into Goku? ROFLOL

Let's pretend the story is true...there were lots of doubters back then, according to the Bible. So...maybe I'd be a doubter. Who knows.

It wouldn't keep me from fucking my goat any less back then. I'd be awe stricken as well as enjoying a great goat-gasm.

Who knows? I'd probably be ignorant, illiterate, and uneducated.

I don't have that excuse so much today.

First, it would be interesting to see just exactly what there was to see. Maybe you'd be disappointed.

Secondly, the same hypothetical could be applied to any religion's cast of characters. If you had been there to witness Thor battle the ice giants, would you still be so sure Jesus/God was the only act in town?

I think you misunderstand the role of Jesus. When he said He is the way, he meant by his transcendent example. It didn't mean come build an institution around the man who was the enemy of organized religion. It didn't mean worship me as you would any other golden calf. It meant realize inside yourself the divine. You and god are one. What is beyond yourself is already within yourself. Seek it there.

Burn your bible and save your soul.

Not to beat a dead horse, but you'd make a good Gnostic. Big Grin

I'm afraid I'm too ignorant of what gnosticism entails. I'm just used to thinking of it as the opposite of agnostic. I'm definitely agnostic about gods, totally apatheist about any literal 'gods' but interested enough in making sense of the phenomenon itself.

Ooh. I looked it up. I see what you mean but I'm totally down with earthly pleasures. I don't think any 'demiurges' created a damn thing. Not real fond of poverty or doing without. Abstinence .. no way!

But I do think there are truths you can only make your own by directly experiencing them yourself. Nothing that would help you plan a trip to the moon or cure cancer mind you. Nothing worth debating either. But knowing yourself is also something desirable and certainly preferable to choosing a creed off the rack.
