You guys are stupid. Sickle cell anemia is a genetic trait in which some of the red blood cells don't get the proper amount/type of hemoglobin, and the blood doesn't get the proper amount of oxygen.

If one has a mutated gene for hemoglobin from one parent only and a normal hemoglobin gene from the other (heterozygous), then one has increased resistance to malaria. However, if the abnormal gene is inherited from both parents (homozygous), then one has sickle cell disease.
