No, it doesn't.
If one has a mutated gene for hemoglobin from one parent only and a normal hemoglobin gene from the other (heterozygous), then one has increased resistance to malaria. However, if the abnormal gene is inherited from both parents (homozygous), then one has sickle cell disease.
