"The next possibility is extinction by lack of resources or genetic degradation."

Ah what about pandemic or ecological collapse? Those are more pressing in my book.

And what is with the whole "we really mad a mess of this world" thing? Be very careful who you identify with. I awaoke here on a very messed up planet, and no matter what I said they made it worse. They. Not I or we, they. I would love more than anything to get THEM to stop burning rain forest to grow coffee and tomatoes. I am welcome here, I have a good relationship with the earth. Don't fall into the pit of "we fucked this up" that's like me taking credit for fucking up the world as a white man. We are only accountable for our own actions, not those that came before us.

thanks

I think in this case, 'We' represents 'Humanity'... which we all know... is overrated.

Jeez, it was a joke Joyce. Big Grin

The halvah I like (also spelled HELVA) is based on almond meal but also has tahini in it and is quite oily..

Quote:Halva (or halawa, haleweh, ħelwa, halvah, halava, helava, helva, halwa, aluva, chałwa) refers to many types of dense, sweet confections, served across the Indian subcontinent, Central Asia, West Asia, North Africa, the Horn of Africa, the Balkans, and the Jewish world.

This term is used to describe two types of desserts:

* Flour-based: This type of halva is slightly gelatinous and made from grain flour, typically semolina. The primary ingredients are oil, flour, and sugar.
* Nut-butter–based: This type of halva is crumbly and usually made from Tahini (sesame paste) or other nut butters, such as sunflower seed butter. The primary ingredients are nut-butter and sugar.

Halva may also be based on numerous other ingredients, including sunflower seeds, various nuts, beans, lentils, and vegetables such as carrots, pumpkins, yams, and squashes.[1]

RE: Humanity won't last forever.
Ah but 'we' as humanity still is a false identification. We as humanity have both made an incredible mess and built such wonders. Solved some great problems, and created some new-fangled ones. But I have a problem with the 'we messed up the planet' bit. If you did, sure by all means take credit. I for one refuse too. I was lied to and bullshitted into living a lifestyle that was antithetical to sustainability, but I'm getting better every day. I love the planet, the trees, the systems that made and sustain me and my kind. I take no credit for the giant oil spill that is now a 'national situation'. Not yet an emergency, just a situation. If they had asked me, and they certainly did not, I would have suggested not drilling for oil a mile below the surface of the Gulf Coast. Looks like shrimp just got a lot more expensive.

It seems like such a trap, 'we fucked this up'. I'm doing my best here. They made a big mess. They made this paradigm of hatred and division known as modern "culture". They tricked us into fighting amongst ourselves for the crumbs. I'm not one of them.

Thank you,
-Pip

Given the nature of technology, it seems inevitable that (barring civilizational collapse) we will eventually develop strong AI- not in the lifetime of anyone currently alive, but eventually.

I don't know if this is entirely correct. There is onr particular documentary you should watch. It's called Human v2.0, and quite interesting to say the least.

If life on earth isn't wiped out somehow altogether, humans have just as much a chance of living on as any other living thing might. Everything is always changing, evolving, speciating even, nothing is completely still, so there is a good chance that humans, or at least a branching off or two, will keep going. Probably never in a stationary, staying 'human as we know it' forever sort of way though. I hope we stick around in some form, but I'm biased on that.

I wouldn't worry too much about"fucking up the planet"

The planet has been fucked up way worse than anything we can do by natural disasters.

Look at the K/T event for starters.

It always manages to bounce back, and will this time.

We might not be so lucky.......
