Here's another shithead who has trouble understanding a concept like a calendar. The people of Louisiana apparently keep electing this douchebag.

Apparently he does not even know what his own agency is doing...much less any others.

NARA tries to improve email preservation
By Adam Mazmanian
Aug 21, 2013
Note the date of the story.
Quote:Dubbed Capstone, the plan is designed to take some of the guesswork out of preserving agency emails that qualify as permanent records under federal law.
Under Capstone, emails from senior agency officials, personnel dubbed "mission centric," and public affairs staff will be presumptively classified as permanent, and automatically stored.
"Our thinking here is that there are pockets within agencies we can identify and target and use tools against to capture email and declare it permanent , preserve it, and make it available," Chief Records Officer Paul Wester said at a Digital Government Institute 930Gov conference on Aug. 21.
NARA has "voluminous and complete" email records from the White House and agencies covered by the Presidential Records Act, but it's a different story at agencies under the Federal Records Act. Currently, most agencies print and file paper copies of emails that qualify as permanent records. Agencies that have electronic filing still require that users drag-and-drop relevant emails into a special folder. These filing systems are being applied inconsistently across agencies, Wester said.
I wouldn't expect a grandstanding cocksucker like Issa to know or care but one would think the SME would be slightly better prepared. Or maybe not. The right only wants to make shit up so they can scream about that black guy in the white house, eh Woodie?

I noticed that whenever the Liberaltards realize they are losing the argument....they pull out the old race card.
The IRS keep all emails backed up on tape for 6 months. It would be simply easier and more cost effective to just keep the back up tapes permanently instead of engaging in some kerfuffle were people look at every email and decide which one need permanent archiving and which don't. Back up tapes aren't all that expensive and surely in the 1.3 billion dollar IT budget of the IRS...the funds can be found to do this. But this is a department full of idiots and morons who have to do things the hard and expensive way.

I can access my emails from any computer connected to the internet because mine are stored on a server. I find it hard to believe that these emails have been lost because her computer crashed.
What do guy think?
Shenanigans here or are the republicans just on a witch hunt?
No...the emails were not "lost". They were, however, purposefully destroyed to cover up evidence of criminal wrongdoing on the part of the IRS and person or persons unknown.

Budget cuts and new responsibilities are straining the Internal Revenue Service's ability to police tax returns. This year, the IRS will have fewer agents auditing returns than at any time since at least the 1980s.
Taxpayer services are suffering, too, with millions of phone calls to the IRS going unanswered.

$37,000 per tape to back up useless emails - and trust me...most of them are USELESS....I had to read a lot of them and you wonder why an agency which can't afford to hire people for its primary function was trying to scrimp? I know you really want to hang the black guy...(you don't fool me with your protestations, Woodie) but if you read the article posted about the NARA system you'd know that if there were any emails to or from Lerner o the White House they would already have been on the NARA's systems which were not part of the IRS' email system.
To normal people, the fact that they were not there would say something but you are a republicunt which means normal is fucked.

The tape you cited can store 8500GB. The average email is 75 kb. The tape can store 113,000,000 emails. There are 89,500 IRS employees. One tape can store 1262 emails for every IRS employee. The average business employee sends out 37 emails a day. This means one tape can hold 34 days worth of emails if each IRS employee sends out 37 per day. In short it would take about 11 tapes to store all the IRS emails....permanently. It would cost about $400,000 dollars in tapes. Now you want me to believe that the 1.3 billion dollar IRS IT budget is so strapped for cash it can't afford $400,000 a year in tapes? This is just the IT department....the total budget for the IRS is about 12.5 billion dollars.
Government is corrupt and incompetent. This is why it needs to be small and have minimal power. Yet you liberaltards want to keep growing it.....and you wonder why I think you're a bunch of idiots.

Just for clarity - the $37,000 figure quoted above is for the drive. 8.5TB tapes are under $300 each.
The issue is not necessarily one of cost. Even relatively small Exchange servers are a pain in the ass to deal with archiving emails, let alone massive ones like IRS undoubtedly uses. We have single employees who's mailboxes are several terabytes in size (mostly due to undisciplined emailing of fucking PowerPoint files - the execs are the worst offenders.

Shouldn't the NSA have the emails on file?
I don't know what happened to the emails but I'm pretty sure the IRS did not just conveniently lose them. And if they did, the people in charge of storing their files should be held to account.

Thanks for the clarification, C/D but what is described is not what I observed. I saw tapes that were an inch wide and on reels about a foot in diameter. Running on what looked like a giant tape recorder.
Perhaps this article from 2007 will better explain what is in use to you. Also note that the article never even mentions email.

Quote:The Internal Revenue Service has been trying for years to upgrade its antiquated mainframe computers, which process Americans' tax returns by churning through millions of lines of assembly code written by hand in the early 1960s.
But after more than 20 years and over $5 billion, there's still no end in sight. Not all computer systems can talk to each other, information isn't available in real time, and tax returns filed on paper are often manually entered by typists.
The article is from 2007 and it does not seem as if they have made much in the way of progress..... although I'm sure the consultants have made a fortune.
