Let me preface this post by saying that when I refer to ‘god’, I am referring to the Judeo-Christian-Islamic god, which is widely considered to be one and the same. There have been innumerable other deities worshipped throughout human history, but those are largely considered mythological, even by modern day believers. Some believers may claim that the Greek gods (and the others) were ancient man’s misinterpretation of the ‘true god’, but the stories are far too varied (even considering the plagiarism from one to the other) for that to be taken seriously… and so I dismiss that out of hand. Even if it were true, it would mean that the only god in question is the Judeo-Christian-Islamic god, which brings me back to my first line.
My evidence that god does not exist is the lack of demonstrable, empirical evidence that god does exist. How’s that? I’m glad you asked. Over the last few thousand years, mankind has been asking ‘how’ and ‘why’ about Life, the Universe, and Everything* and, so doing, has made multitudinous discoveries and collected a proverbial mountain of evidence that points to wholly natural answers.
None of that evidence, not one piece, has ever been shown to support the contention that god does exist. Furthermore, the evidence as a whole indicates that no god needs to exist. Therefore, ‘god does not exist’ is an entirely legitimate conclusion and, I contend, the only rational one in light of the sheer amount of evidence to be considered.
To quote Austin Cline**, "this alleged entity has no place in any scientific equations, plays no role in any scientific explanations, cannot be used to predict any events, does not describe any thing or force that has yet been detected, and there are no models of the universe in which its presence is either required, productive, or useful.
Nothing in science is proven or disproven beyond a shadow of any possible doubt. In science, everything is provisional. Being provisional is not a weakness or a sign that a conclusion is weak. Being provisional is a smart, pragmatic tactic because we can never be sure what we'll come across when we round the next corner. This lack of absolute certainty is a window through which many religious theists try to slip their god, but that's not a valid move."
There is more, but I will save that for my next thread, ‘Evidence God Does Not Exist: Part Two’. Just kidding. I won’t get into the stuff about the very source of the myth having been thoroughly debunked via fact checking, shown to be historically inaccurate, filled with contradictions, and was authored generations after the alleged events that it presents.
