Which means we are omnivores. If we were purely vegetarian we wouldn't be able to run on meat at all. This would have been bad news for people living in the Arctic who were forced to have a diet which was mostly meat and a lot of it raw.

Our ancestors wouldn't have been able to eat the meat if they weren't omnivores. What's the point of catching animals for meat if you can't eat it?

I found another article about it on Beyond Vegetarianism Com which says, on the Home Page -

Quote:Reports from veterans of vegetarian and raw-food diets, veganism, fruitarianism, and instinctive eating, plus new science from paleolithic diet research and clinical nutrition.

Meat - a part of human diet for ~2.5 million years

Quote:The evidence that meat has been part of the human diet for ~2.5 million years, thus, directly implies that meat is a "natural" part of the human diet, where "natural" is defined as: those foods one is adapted to consume by evolution. (Side note to vegetarians: The fact that meat is a natural part of the evolutionary diet does not imply that one must, or even should, eat meat.)

I'm a vegetarian but I'm not going to deny the fact that humans evolved to have some meat in the diet if they could get hold of it. Many vegetarians and vegans are happy to accept that fact and I've supplied you with links to articles on vegetarian and vegan sites which present the evidence for meat eating.

I sometimes wonder about those vegetarians and vegans who insist that humans were never meant to eat meat. It makes me suspect it's the only thing that's keeping them from going back to meat eating. They remind me of those Christians who insist that it's only a belief in Hell that stops them from murdering people. Rolleyes

You're obviously free to believe whatever you like. Believing that humans aren't meat to eat meat doesn't make you superior to vegans who accept the fact that we did evolve to but who choose to be vegans anyway.

Two and a half million years of documented meat eating, hey? Do you think this meat eating fad will become natural for us anytime soon, Rik?

This probably eluded you, but when we say we "evolved to be omnivorous" we're not just talking about our teeth. The metabolism of every cell in our body malfunctions in the abscence of nutrients that are found in meat. There are some pretty exotic arrangements that can leave residue on vegetative tissue, but it's insufficient - and still amounts to consuming the produce of animals. Any population without access to those nutrients is and would have been chronically malnourished. We still haven't "evolved into it" - regardless of time, and we still require those nutrients. So do you - and I bet you're getting them from something you eat, omnivore.

Gee, you make me think that most of Gujarati and other ethnic group of India that have been vegetarian for countless generation eat meat in the darkness of night when nobody see them.
You are very funny boy. Smile
Oh by the way, i do the same but officially speaking i have been a vegetarian for 42 years.
Please Rhythm don't tell anybody, ok? Tiger

Oh, my God, now we will have to rewrite all the books of history.
I didn't know that man was so old.
I thought about a million not two and a half.
And i also thought that meat eating was occurring here and there especially during tough times but who can argue with an expert like you.
Good boy Whatever, now i am sure you will show us the concrete evidence of what you just say. Confused Fall

Gee, you just gave me a really good idea.
In the garage i got a lot of kerosene that i didn't know what to do.
So from now on i will use this kerosene instead of petrol for my car.
What a bright idea Ape!!! Confused Fall

It remind me of that British guy that show the survival techniques.
He drink his own urine and something else that it is not very nice to say.
Get real Ape.
We are not talking about survival ways.
We are talking about what is good for human being that are at the edge of human emancipation and what is in tune with their way to evolve.

That guy is a nut case.
Man evolved about a million years ago not two and a half.
At that stage man was not a real man but some sort of primate. Cool Shades

It's called evolution. Modern man evolved from pre-human ancestors who ate some meat as well as fruit and vegetables. This is why we are able to eat it.

If our species survives long enough to keep evolving it will be due to natural selection not religious or philosophical dogma.

He isn't a nut case. He's talking about the earliest archaeological evidence in our evolutionary history. We inherited the ability to eat meat from those ancestors who were pre-human.

Many vegetarians and vegans accept the facts of what humans evolved to eat but it doesn't stop them from choosing to be vegetarians and vegans. Is your world going to come crashing down if you accept that humans are omnivores but we aren't obliged to eat meat as long as we get all our vitamins and minerals?

What i find astonish guys is that you say that you believe in evolution and yet there is no evolution in your mind.
10-15 years ago we use the old monitor box.
Now we got flat monitors.
Just try to go back to the old box and see how you feel?
Our consciousness must constantly get in tune with something more evolved and sophisticate in order to climb the step of evolution.
What was ok. yesterday doesn't make sense anymore both physically mentally and spiritually.
This also apply to the food that we eat.
A more evolved consciousness can not deal with certain foods.
You can carry on by eating food not in tune with your consciousness but this will prevent real progress.
You can keep on masturbating your brains thinking that what you do is ok.
You can keep on putting kerosene in the tank of your car.
it still will go but it wan't go the way it should.
That is your life.
You will have to deal with that.
Good luck. Smile

I smoke a pound of meat a day covered in menthol flavored tobacco. Feels good to blow it in the faces of people that bitch about meat and smoking or anything else under the sun. Treat your own body the way you deem fit, and let others do as they wish.

RE: The redneck strike again.
O.o

You do realize that our physiology DEMANDS nutrients that are only naturally found in animal products, right? You can be a healthy vegetarian or vegan, but you have to supplement your diet in order to do so. You can't be unaware of this.

Evolution doesn't work overnight. We do need meat, just like we have for millions of years. If you want us to NOT eat meat, then don't eat it, only breed with other vegetarians, and prevent those who do eat meat from procreating. I don't endorse that last one, btw. Genocide is a no-no.

So what about all the vegetarians and vegans who don't eat meat even though they accept the fact that humans evolved to eat it? Don't they count for your idea of having an evolved consciousness? After all, they're not eating meat for ethical reasons.

You keep forgetting that I'm a vegetarian. I'm guessing that you don't think I'm a 'real' vegetarian because I don't pretend that humans aren't omnivores. Rolleyes
