Adventure with yellow jackets
I posted this over at the tractor forum just now,
I don't see a provision for posting pics here.
Yes, I play with tractors.

Probably member photos. It's a pretty good catch-all.

And use these:

Code:

Makes for better posting.

Where the dear and the strangers can play
Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word
But the skies are not stormy all day

We Humans are so smart when it comes to killing other species of living things. Our arrogance is only outweighed by our ignorance.

So ShaMan, you would prefer to have hornets in your back yard?
If they or some other danger moves in, who stays- you or them?

No, I do not want hornets in my yard. I once had a similar situation to the one you've described. In my case, however, I chose to call a friend who is expert with these matters and had him remove the beings to another location, where they could continue their lives.

I was not making a judgement, I simply made an accurate assessment.

Let's say I had an ant infestation... I'd nuke the little minions! It's just our nature.

Don't feel bad prof. We'll have plenty more chances to kill before we die Wink Shades

If moving the yellowjackets was 'free' I don't see a problem with that.

If moving the yellowjackets was 'expensive', I guess I have a problem with the outlay since yellowjackets are not rare at all.

Maybe a better allocation of resources might have been to bug bomb the mislocated nest, and donate the moving expense to organization that funds protection for life forms that are rare and endangered.

Yeah, sounds like triage, and it is.

Sometimes, when the sun hits my computer just right, I really love the randomness of this place.

IT'S A MAGICAL ADVENTURE!

I also love bees.

RE: Adventure with yellow jackets
While researching what to do about the hornets on Mytractorforum.com, I came upon a poster that said he waited til morning, all suited up and when he got to the ground nest, there was nothing but a big hole.
He said a skunk or raccoon had eaten them all!

Honey bees are quite unlike hornets, they are said to be docile unless their nest is actively messed with.
I have been hit by hornets, never by bees.
