Most in the 20th century. You now have a few Moslem dictators, but even then, most of the dictators of those nations during that same time were in fact nonbelievers.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.

And there you have the very embodiment of Poe's Law.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

By definition the pope is a dictator and all kings as well.
Your point?

Not even a little, because I doubt their atheism was the cause of their views. It's not like we have a book telling us to commit genocide.

So basically, if I am to explain to little children, the crux of this thread, it would be:
People who don't believe there is a hell are bad because there is no everlasting payback for their actions.
People who do believe in hell want to be bad but aren't because god has blackmailed them into being good.
Philosophy dinosaur asks: why are jails full of Christians?
No God, No fear.
Know God, Know fear.

The key difference in the definition being the Pope is elected and kings usually earn their power through hereditary succession.
Jails are full of Christians because non-believers turn to faith because they need something to get them through the misery of prison.

Well, not really. Jails are full of Christians because jails tend to be filled with the poor and uneducated who tend to be, yup, Christian. Incidentally in the USA they tend to be heavily catholic because the demographics of prisons tend to be high in Latinos, who are predominantly catholic.

"Earned" through heredity.
Incidentally, can the pope be deposed? It's a rhetorical question, I already know he can't. That's a dictator; how they rise to power is never the point. One doesn't begin with an army of followers, after all.

Citation needed, but not expected. I doubt you had one before you made the argument, after all.

An insider elected by a small group of insiders.

Because it makes them look better in front of a parole board, which has a better than even chance of consisting of people who think that being Christian makes you a better person for some reason.

Jails are full of Christians because Christianity is a morally bankrupt system.
