I'm going to reluctantly and begrudgingly agree Undecided

The majority of jailhouse "Christians" that I personally know are non-believers who are either scared and turn to a notion of god, or claim to turn for reasons of affiliation. That, or they think that identifying as a Christian will get them an easy ride in front of conservative judges.

This guy should have stayed a little longer so we could give him a fucking history lesson..
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you

"Earned" through heredity. ROFLOL

Incidentally, can the pope be deposed? It's a rhetorical question, I already know he can't. That's a dictator; how they rise to power is never the point. One doesn't begin with an army of followers, after all.

Citation needed, but not expected. I doubt you had one before you made the argument, after all. Rolleyes

Don't like the definition of words in your language? That seems to be a you problem.

No. I just used logic (you should try using it for once) and the fact that Christians told me of their great successes at converting prisoners; it was much more difficult doing the same with the prison guards. The prison guards were open to having the ministry at the prisons because they wanted the clerics to tame the most unruly of inmates.

You apparently don't know what 'earn' means.

Our recently banned friend has earned the full brunt of the flamethrowers.

Benito Mussolini: Raised Catholic. Facists loved their connections to the Catholic church.

Adolf Hitler: Nope. You don't get to claim he "wasn't a true Christian". That's bullshit. A man calls himself something, he is what he calls himself regardless of what another denomination thinks.

Mao Zedong: Raised Buddhist, policy protected Buddhism. Never claimed to be atheist.

Pol Pot: Theravada Buddhist. Also went to a Catholic school for 8 years.

Stalin: Raised Georgian Orthodox. Became Atheist to pursue Communism. Attacked all Abrahamic religions inside the Soviet Union, encouraged Islam outside of the USSR.

Kim Jong Il, Kim Jong Un: Il is a god in the Juche religion modeled after Christianity. Il's father, Il-sung, is the "primary" god in the religion. Il-sung's wife, Il-sung, and Jong Il are all worshiped by the people publicly. Any other religion is performed in private and in secret.

Fidel Castro: Raised Catholic, fought against Catholic influence in Cuba. Declared self to be Atheist at the time. Later became friendly with the Catholic and Orthodox Churches. In his spoken autobiography, he said: "If people call me Christian, not from the standpoint of religion but from the standpoint of social vision, I declare that I am a Christian."

So what, you got TWO Atheist dictators out of a whole slew of names. Congrats, law of averages.

What SHOULD this make me suspicious of? You didn't even present an argument. Evil comes in all flavors, your religion or religious views don't necessarily dictate your moral character.

You can earn something by doing nothing....it happens all the time and is called nepotism. Earning something does not mean someone deserved to earn it.

Mussolini was a known atheist.

Buddhism is a version of atheism.

I believe you mean receive, not earn. Earning something requires that you do something to deserve it. If someone becomes king because he's the first born of the king, he receives his title. He did nothing to earn it, besides maybe being loyal and dutiful, but those are optional.

If I'm not mistaken, Mussolini was an atheist, he didn't attack the church because Catholicism had great influence over Italy.

Yeah, you're right...I just looked up the definition and receive or obtain is a much better word. Thanks.

I'm sorry, no. Buddhism has its own spiritual beliefs, and just because it doesn't have a god at the front of it doesn't mean that it's able to be called "atheism".

I'll give you Mussolini, but you're going to have to take Buddhism and Atheism as two different things. Non-mutually-exclusive things, but at least have the intellectual decency to NOT conflate the two to make your side of the argument easier to pull off.
