In short what the problem is?

The problem was always there. The scots have now been given the opportunity to do something about it. The rest of the UK are fighting to keep the cash cow now as they realise there's a good chance of the scots voting for independence. I think smaller governments that more accurately represent the local population and represent large corporations less is a great thing.

The term you want is Great Britain - that is England/Scotland/Wales.
The United Kingdom is the union of Great Britain with Northern Ireland.

Well, if Scotland were to leave Great Britain, it also leaves United Kingdom.

Y'all should know . If you'd waited a few hunnard years you could have just voted yourself out without all that unpleasantness involving tea!

Seriously though, most people I know south of the border are pretty ambivalent. Its a pretty fine slice as to whether money flows north or south, depends which stats you believe. Personally, It doesn't much trouble me either way but if I had to express a preference I'd rather them going off their own way.

Although, they have oil... and our nuclear subs live there so they have WMDs... I bet someone in washington perked up and took an interest. I don't advice any adventurism there . Scots are both well hard and well mad.
