What came first, the atheist or the theist?

No, because those terms had not been created then. It is what we call them NOW, but not then.

You can have your opinion and I can have mine, try not to get to excited.
Stop Spencer. Fifteen pages is more than enough.

There are opinions and then there are informed opinions, specifically ones based on information. We're tried various examples and you've rejected them all and offer no counter-argument other than that "agree to disagree" bullshit. You identify yourself as an 'atheist' yet repeatedly you display a lack of understanding of what the label and its meaning actually state to the point where I'm half-expecting you to "magically convert to theism" on us anytime now. You have a mental block that is preventing you from understanding the fundamental differences between atheism, theism, agnosticism.

Go educate yourself first.

Calm down son, we're only talking. I do not believe in God or any of the bullshit around it. So you label me then. I know the differences between all of those and I have offered up SEVERAL arguments other than agree to disagree. Yet you guys refuse to see any other explanation than your own. I do plan on educating myself more, I thought that is why I came here, I forgot the internet was full of such dicks.

Why such hostility?

It stems from frustration, Spencer.

Do you agree with this statement?: First came the atheists (those without belief in gods), then came the theists, then came the word 'atheist'.

The word 'atheist' came after the theist, but that word describes those that came before the theist.

We aren't refusing to see any other explanation; we are simply spotting the fallacies in your one and rebutting it. You can do the same to ours if you see fallacies, but half the time you decide to back away and say "Well, let's ask the OP", or "Let's agree to disagree".

No, we won't ask the OP because what the OP meant is irrelevant at this stage, since we are talking about the question in a general way.
No, we won't agree to disagree; this is an internet forum; we are debating. If you want to walk away from the debate, I have no problems with that, but I'm not going to agree to disagree with you.

Yes I agree with that! All technicalities.

Then you agree that 'the atheist' came before 'the theist'... which means you agree with the rest of us. Argument resolved. Yay!!

Assuming God is what we call the point of creation, God has to be a theist, so theism came first! Big Grin

I am calm. I want you to understand the meaning of the word "Atheism", especially if you're going to profess yourself as one.

Spencer Wrote:I know the differences between all of those and I have offered up SEVERAL arguments other than agree to disagree. Yet you guys refuse to see any other explanation than your own.
If you knew the differences then we wouldn't be having this discussion. You are arguing with the current working-definitions. You aren't actually debating with us properly yet, because you are disputing the labels of Atheism and Theism and then confusing them with the very separate issue of Agnosticism, all of which words that have their own associated meanings, ones that have long since been established.

Stop. We've spent more time on this tedious trivial subject matter with you, and just you, than many of us would have liked to primarily owing to your obstinate stubbornness. Now you're insinuating this forum is full of hostile dicks. I hope to have more adult conversations with you in the future but at this point in time its looking increasingly unlikely.

So we're in agreement that atheists were around before theists?
Apologies for the double post, fr0d0s reply was deleted.

Yes but the God of the Bible doesn't believe in other gods, that inadvertently makes him an atheist. Big Grin
