Are they all inbred, uneducated rednecks?
I didn't have the misfortune to know about them either before I came here. Seems like a hate cult. Funny thing though, Fred Phelps (did he bite the dust yet?) started out as a civil rights lawyer before turning into a raving preacher.

Just shows what religion can do to even an educated mind.
Yeah, Freddie kicked last year, I think.

Inbred, yes. Rednecks, yes. Uneducated, mostly. I once worked with a Southern Baptist Electrical Engineer from the buckle of the buy-bull belt. He kinda liked me (though I can't figure out why when my loathing for his religion was made blatantly obvious, over and over) until i was listening to some Nine Inch Nails and he mistook the name as a christer name, I shit you not, he actually said "that's about how long the nails were." He kept insisting that he wanted to hear this "Closer to God" song I was listening to even though I repeatedly told him that it wasn't the type of music he thought it was. The look on his face when Trent started going on about wanting to "fuck you like an animal" was truly priceless.
It's too bad that "Whore" by In This Moment wasn't out then. I would have played that one for him too.

Well, there's always the cocksucker blues by the good old Stones.

A hypocritical bunch of pissants is what they are. I should know; I was raised as one. Robbypants's thread about "gaming the system" could be a game plan for many of them -- they pray every Sunday for sins committed every Saturday night, and it's often acknowleged with a laugh.
Phelps, who died in 2014, was ordained a a Southern Baptist minister, but it seems he had some very Calvinist views, especially his acceptance of preordainment, which is directly contrary to SoB doctrine that salvation comes through personal confession, repentance, and accepting The Loarrrd into one's heart.
Not all SoBs are inbred and uneducated. But those who get the education leave the congregation for more tolerant fields, usually.

Southern Baptists are just as cherry pickingful as the Methodists and most all the other 'Christianity-lite' franchises, yet their assholiness rating is MUCH higher.
Hell if I can figure out what's going on with the corncob up their butt.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

I grew up Southern Baptist also. The denomination split from northern Baptist over the issue of slavery.
According to wikipedia it is the largest Protestant denomination in the US. Not everyone who attends a Southern Baptist Church is an inbred hick. Some people go because their parents and grandparents were Southern Baptist so that is the church where they are most comfortable.
SB churches are usually very friendly to new people. They often have various programs for families and the singing is good. There are lots of people who attend SB churches and seem to be oblivious to its overall craziness. I think that they are going more for the social aspects of church and not for the religion itself.
There is a lot of hypocriticalness in SB congregation. I don't know if it is still true but I was told that SB congregations aren't supposed to drink alcohol and yet, lots of people who attend that denomination do drink. My neighbor used to be a bartender and she still makes the best drinks. Whenever she had a get together, there would always be a group of people who hung behind waiting for everyone else to leave so they could sneak one of my friend's drinks without their fellow church members knowing. They were always Southern Baptist

Why am I suspecting that he doesn't know anything about calculus or ebola or Africa?
