Yeah that is my own POV of it but playing devils advocate i only really like the original teachings of Buddhism but when it comes to abrahamic religions that's just a no. Seeing as it is with Islam and other religions like it including christianity i wouldn't touch it.

Yea but again, whatever you like about Buddhism can be found outside of Buddhism with different words, even in fiction and drama and movies. There is nothing new under the sun.

Judaism is not only a religion, but also a culture and an ethnicity. That is why there are atheist Jews.

As for Buddhism --- it is possible to follow the philosophy without believing in any deity ---- but if Buddhism is *traditionally* atheistic, there are lots of traditional Buddhist teachers who haven't got the memo.

Um no, Jew is a religion. Sammy Davis Jr was Jewish and hardly the same skin tone as most Jews. Religions are geographical. Our skin tones and face shapes are a result of evolution. Those shapes and tones are because of our DNA, they do not prevent us however, from migrating and mixing and adapting different social norms.

Kevin: if you haven't heard of TheBibleReloaded, it's the most enjoyable and hilarious way to "read" the bible, on YouTube. They do it as podcasts starting right from the beginning, they skip the dull pointless bits and rip the piss out of the whole thing. It's utter genius. Just search for atheist bible study #1. I learned a lot and laughed until I was sick :p

Brian --- I am aware that many people today are accustomed to a paradigm by which religion, culture, and ethnicity are neatly partitioned from one another ---- but not every societal entity fits this paradigm. There is a such thing as Jewish religion --- but there is also a such thing as Jewish culture and society that, while related to the religion, is not synonymous to it. It includes to many persons, not all of whom follow the religion. It exists and is quite real.

As for Jewish ethnicity -- that is a real thing too. Once a doctor mentioned my Jewishness on my medical profile. I asked her why it is relevant ---- and she gave a very detailed answer -- that boiled down to the fact that Jewish ethnicity is a very real thing - and as with any ethnicity, has it's generic conditions and quirks -- and is well enough documented that care providers need to be aware of it. It to is related to Jewish society and culture, and by that proxy to the religion as well -- but it is synonymous to neither.

Now, I know that there is a good chance that *someone* will employ the Slippery Slope proxy of the False Dilemma fallacy to bolster a Straw Man against what I am saying. Let's face it, too many people view this thread for me to bet against it. But that possibility is hereby anticipated.
