What would be the harm in simply admitting that the Bible is partly myth? There are lots of Christians that admit this. I guess there is a psychology that goes with being a fundamentalist - the few chosen ones against the corrupt world. There was a good essay about that psychology if I can find it.

If any of the Bible isn't true then none of it should be trusted, it's as simple as that. I have yet to find anything wrong with the scriptures and I have studied them with open eyes. I do not always agree with my fellow brothers and sisters, but when one of them say that part of the scriptures is myth, they're just wrong. Tell me why should I jump off a bridge just because it's what others do, or even if it's a popular thing to do, neither is healthy.

To be fair, I'd much rather be called a Luciferian than potentially be confused for a Christian.

Why throw out the whole Bible if any piece of it is wrong? That doesn't make sense to me. I know it's a slippery slope. You would need to examine each piece of the Bible carefully to know if it is history, allegory, etc. But you already need to think carefully about the choices you make in life relative to Christian teachings. It wouldn't be so bad IMO.

How about the snake handling in Mark? My Bible had a note explaining that those verses were not present in the earliest manuscripts.
