Windows 10

RE: Windows 10
Incidentally, I upgraded a total of four machines since the release, and no one's had any complaints. Nothing seems to have broken.

If you prefer the Windows 7 menu like I do, download Classic Shell. The standard tiled menu isn't horrible, I could get used to it like I did the 8 Metro UI but why?

With that my only complaint is that visually, I preferred the Windows 7 window decorations and the Aero desktop.

With a few tweaks it feels more like 7 than 8, and the things it has in common with 8 are generally good

Thanks, C/D.  I know there are people out there who think Microsoft is the equivalent of the gestapo.

I don't think they are that bad.  Maybe just the equivalent of the Ferguson P.D.

I literally LOLed.

I do recommend going through the custom setup and verifying some privacy settings are set the way you like (I turned a number of them off, and I think many would agree).

Microsoft may be evil, but the gestapo wouldn't let you turn off their surveillance shit. Tongue

I don't believe that, but since I'm a childish old fart who plays a lot of video games, I tend to wait with new systems till I know if my collection even runs. Also I don't see any real need to upgrade every once in a while as long as the system is doing it's job.

Well.... I installed it an a spare PC (not risking my main one for a while!) It seems to work ok, once I removed the stupid apps from the start menu, things I will never use anyway. (when did programs turn into apps anyway??) It is much better than windoze 8 but why did they make the UI so ugly? The sharp square corners on all the windows just make it look harsh and nasty somehow. I will give it a few weeks and then decide if it stays or gets turned back into a penguin!

I guess because of the ever growing tablet market. But according to Cthulhu, you can get rid of it. Anyway, I will give it a few months before I risk it. Microsoft systems aren't exactly known for being bug free at release.

I am still upgrading to W7 and there were some 160 updates and another 40 some after that, then another 30 some.

I don't let it install everything it wants anyway. Had bad experiences with that once. I've set the updater so that I decide when and what. Otherwise you virtually have to reset your rig three or four times a day, since it downloads and installs every little shit you're missing. Even if you absolutely have no use for it.

Anyway, one of my favorite vids is win 95 freezing behind Bill Gates at the big presentation.

I never use automatic, especially on my server. I am just still working on the fresh install and then I will customize, which includes turning off anything that is automatic. The big problem I foresee, not being a Windoze guy, is turning off that damn W7 security that pops up every minute saying "Do you want to authorize ...?" YES dammit, I DO! Quit asking me!
