Yeah. I've been too sick to get to the pharmacy for patches.

For me "cool turkerey" has always been an easy way to NOT quit.

I quit cocaine cold turkey. This is only harder because nicotine is readily available everywhere.

Yeah, cool turkey doesn't really work, but it's much less of a bitch than cold turkey.

An old friend of mine found quitting cigarettes harder than quitting his other drug habits.  I do not say that to try to discourage you, but rather to brace yourself for the struggle.

I can testify that. I quitted heroin, when i was even shooting it, cold turkey. Yet, tobacco has proven itself harder to quit. Sure no hard physical withdrawal, but its so available and inside your life's habits that its so easy to fall again. Heroin is not socially acceptable and availability requires going to certain places to buy it.

It is not that tobacco is more addictive, It is the circunstances.

It didn't happen often, but even a year or two after hitting 12 Steppers, I'd get a craving for cocaine. Impulses in regards to other chemicals cleared in a couple months, but I remain amazed the little bit of coke I did along with everything else still was causing a craving so much later.

Word.

The common meme is that tobacco is more addictive than heroin or cocaine. In my experience it is not, the availability makes it very difficult to quit, not to mention you get triggered every time you go outside for a walk, because that's where the smokers are.

If I could buy an 8 ball at 7-11 and my coworkers were doing blow on break out in front of the office, they'd be comparable.

In terms of the grip the physical addiction has on you, it's not comparable, not from my perspective.

It's the dopamine. That shit is so seductive, it's not even funny. It's a trap, though, as you well know.

I pretty much had to kick cocaine before even attempting to quit tobacco - can't have one without the other.

I didn't really talk much about my addiction prior to this, but I figure talking about it, if nothing else, forces me to be honest with myself. I broke the addiction last November. It doesn't bother me much any more.

I smoke hand rolled since around 98. I got used to it and indeed, I smoke like 10 cigs in a party day. Still I wonder if its better just to make the final leap.

I did way more opiates than I did cocaine, yet the cravings I've felt for cocaine are much stronger than those for opiates.

It's an amazingly addictive drug.

In my experience the only physical symptom of nicotine withdrawal is a tight feeling in the stomach kind of like hunger and often mistaken for it. Compared to headaches for caffeine withdrawal it's very mild and if it was just about that it would be easy to quit, but it's all about the triggers and as LP says, your life habits. It's so integrated in everything; that's the problem for me.
