How very.... Christian. Anything the buy-bull says that the church authority doesn't like, well that's just allegorical. [Image: free-rolleye-smileys-323.gif]

I await the day they decide all of it is allegorical.

Well of course, that would be silly, wouldn't it?

It's not like the character can work miracles.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

RE: HELL
All of this comes down to one thing:

God can't do anything wrong. If it seems like God is doing something wrong, it is us who misunderstands. He can't do anything wrong because he's God, and that means he can't do anything wrong. Because he's God.

This is an incredibly dangerous (and totally circular) position to take, which involves the complete surrender of your humanity and morality. Especially when you are relying completely on people to deliver god's "messages". Consider for a moment the implications of this if you are wrong.

You don't believe in God because of Alice in Wonderland?

No, Through the Looking Glass.
That poem,"The Walrus and the Carpenter"...
that's an indictment of organized religion.

The Walrus, with his girth and his good nature...
he obviously represents either Buddha...
or with his tusks, the Hindu elephant god, Lord Ganesha.
That takes care of your Eastern religions.

Now, the Carpenter, which is an obvious reference to Jesus Christ...
who was raised a carpenter's son, he represents the Western religions.
Now, in the poem, what do they do?
They dupe all these oysters into following them...
and then proceed to shuck and devour the helpless creatures en masse.

I don't know what that says to you, but to me it says...
that following these faiths based on mythological figures...
ensures the destruction of one's inner-being.

Organized religion destroys who we are...
by inhibiting our actions, by inhibiting our decisions...
out of fear of some intangible parent figure...
who shakes a finger at us from thousands of years ago...
and says, "Do it...Do it and I'll fuckin' spank you!"
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.

I noticed that they jumped right into Pascal's wager pretty much from the get go.

Quote: Jesus exhorted us to be ready for judgment. Why? Why does it matter? If Hell does not exist or if there is no after-life, what possible difference does being ready make?

It matters a lot if you've based your life around it and messed with other peoples' lives too.

I'm planning a video on PW soon.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

I certainly hope you're not advertising half illiterate ignorance as an ideal to strive for.

Although, on second thought, I suspect you meant just that.

Meant it?  Proud, breast-pounding, half-illiterate ignorance is an "ideal" GC embodies.

It turns out that she's nice, intelligent, and has the common sense to know what is fiction and non-fiction. But, I'm sure that you didn't mean it that way, because you believe in talking donkeys and magic jesus walking on water.
Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.' -Isaac Asimov-
